This was the Steelers best team performance so far this season against a stout Clowns Defense led by Jim Schwartz. The O-Line did a great job keeping Myles Garrett in check the entire game. He doesn't even show up on the stat sheet as having a tackle but I thought I saw him make 1 tackle during the game in the 3rd Quarter on a run by Johnson. The Steelers were able to run the ball efficiently racking up a 100 yds from scrimmage and Rogers and the passing game did enough to get the job done with 235 yds & 2 TD's. I loved that first pass play to Washington.....seeing him running in the open field is a beautiful thing.
Defensively the Steelers kept rookie QB Dillon Gabriel bottled up as he struggled most of the game.....It wasn't until 4th Quarter where he finally started to get some yards in garbage time. We saw six sacks today by the Steelers and some great individual efforts on Defense today. It was refreshing to see TJ Watt outshine Myles Garrett on the field today.....we all know who the G0@T is when it comes to these two!
This wasn't a good Cleveland team but at the same time it was a dominant win in all 3 facets of the game.....Offense, Defense & Special Teams. A couple things in this game that stood out to were too many penalties for the Steelers....10 in total is just too many. Not once today did the Steelers offense throw the football over the middle of the field. I just don't understand the logic there. If Tomlin has any concerns about throwing over the middle of the field I'd suggest he go back and watch Super Bowl 45 and revisit how the Packers exploited the middle of the field the entire game. I just don't understand how you can watch the Browns with a rookie QB throw the football over the middle of the field and not once today did the Steelers throw to the middle of the field. The Steelers offense is only using half the field....IMO making it too easy for opposing Defenses!
Lets enjoy this one for 24 hours as it's a short week. The Steelers travel to Cincy for a Rumble in the Jungle Thursday night.....
Per Tomlin's Post Game:
Miles Killebrew - Significant Knee Injury that's being evaluated
Darius Slay - Shoulder that's being evaluated
Game Balls:
Aaron Rogers - 21 for 30 235 yds 2-TD's. Would still like to see the Steelers use the middle of the field on offense.
Patrick Queen - He's finally starting to perform at a high level we saw when he was a Rat. 9 tackles, 1 sack today
TJ Watt - Won the battle today vs Myles Garrett....1 sack, 5 tackles, 2 passes defensed
Jalen Ramsey - 2 sacks today....he's a great blitzer.....first 2 sack game of his career
Nick Herbig - He's really making it hard to keep him off the field....2 sacks today....He got pressure all day!
Game Goats:
Mike Tomlin & Arthur Smith - Use the middle of the frikkin field when your on offense! You've got a First Ballot HoFame QB out there! Don't handcuff your offense using only half the football field. Not one throw today over the middle of the field!
FU's:
FU to Myles Garrett.....King of the Clowns! Great Disappearing act today....David Copperfield & David Blaine would be impressed!
