I remember years ago, Shades said something like "I shouldn't have to teach guys how to improve. They are professionals," or something like that.

Anyone remember this, and if so, where can I find this quote?
TIA

There was another one also legend has it after a loss where he said of his slow starting offense "they (the other team) weren't scoring either so we thought we could be patient."

Coach Tomlin was talking about his players and coaching them up for an upcoming game……

“If they don’t know by now,
We can’t help them”

Was one of the most ridiculous things he has ever said.

EDIT: He was saying that at this level, they shouldn’t need to be taught, they should know.

Take it from someone who has excelled in every sport they have participated in, you are never so good that you can’t improve. It takes constant coaching up to keep the high level and aggressive betterment of play.

But he spoke the truth if they don’t know he can’t help them as he doesn’t know.

But he does know some spiffy jiffy sandwich cliches.

We don’t blink we cut our eyelids off so you can see my eyes bulging… wait let me put my sunglasses back on.

You and I bot5h see the coaching deficiency,

I’m pretty sure Art 2 see’s it as well.

The real question is, what will he do about it.

Will we get that condensending———— I think we need to improve on _____________ insert multitude of desires.

Yep because he is wallet comfy. All this business model is concerned about. We in season win they watch they buy. No concerns.

Not sure about that quote, but there was plenty of classic Tomlin double talk and catch phrases when he tried to rationalize not punting late in the 2nd quarter on 4th and one during his halftime interview. Does he ever just say "I screwed up"....Geeze

Teach guys how to improve what though? Tackling? Blocking? Catching?
After 8 or more years of playing football prior to turning pro, what more could Tomlin offer on ways to improve on these???

If players can’t perform these basics at a professional level, then they cannot possibly be professionals.
So I believe Tomlin has a point.

Now here’s a Tomlin quote I found appearing to be related to struggling players.
This quote can be interpreted as being related to the complexities of the pro game.
After all, some of these college grads aren’t too bright.

I could understand if he was derelict in that aspect.
Apparently not.

Mike recently shared a quote from Mike Tomlin, the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, with our trainer team. It really resonated with us:

“I don’t run away from coaching—I run to it. If everyone could learn easily, we wouldn’t need as many coaches. It’s not about the player who struggles to learn; it’s about the coach finding a way to teach.” - Mike Tomlin

Tomlin shares the blame sure, but after these last 4 games I'm convinced that we just dont have the horses to win when it matters.

Cool, but there was a quote by him about not coaching guys up. It was discussed here at the time.

That's what I want.

In the documentary “History of the Pittsburgh Steelers” Andy Russell talked about his first encounter with new coach Chuck Noll in training camp. Russell said that Noll was showing him how to change his stance and moves. Russell was thinking who is this guy telling me how to play linebacker. Well Russell discovered Coach Noll was correct and changed the way he played his position becoming the great linebacker we knew in the 70s. We are never too old or experienced in our craft to learn something new. A good coach recognizes that he is a teacher also. If a player doesn’t accept being shown how to play better than he shouldn’t be playing.

Seriously, and I’ve asked this question in
the past.
Aside from being a very good motivator what other positive traits does he have?

I don't recall that one, but I recall a reporter asking him way back when he signed here if Warren competing against Najee would improve Warren's game to which Tomlin answered with "Jaylen better worry about Jaylen." That was a moment I never forgot because it confirmed to me that he is completely full of ****. Why? Because it contradicts the " Iron sharpens iron" line. He just tries to be 'thesaurus cute' every chance he gets. Trying to impress people with how smart he is...yeah, he's not. He has the gift of gab and that's it. Smart gets you deep in the playoffs, smart is good at situational football, smart isn't enamored with midgets and trying to get them to play well against grown men, smart doesn't coddle troublemakers and babies, and smart wins championships.

Watch the first 5 seconds of this...turn up your volume before it starts...look at his face. You want to talk about something revealing itself....it's either constipation, hemorrhoids, or the discomfort that comes from knowing you are about to spew the same B.S. and any one who is not a sports media person or invested in him in some way is not buying it anymore. Any way you slice it it's related to **** or being full of ****. There are actually audible sighs from him....LOL. He quickly falls into character though...what a baller......

If you are correct then it contradicts what he says here from Ryan Clark's podcast:

"I love to hear coaches resist the responsibility of coaching, because they’re easy to beat. [...] I love coaches that resist the responsibility of coaches, that talk negatively about dudes [saying that they] can’t learn. Man, if everybody could learn, we’d need less coaches. If the group didn't need management, then we wouldn't make as much!”

He adds:

[...] I don’t run away from coaching. I run to coaching. It’s all in line with that ‘not seeking comfort’ [mindset that he talked about earlier]. Because when you’re a coach that's talking about ‘somebody can’t learn,’ you’re seeking comfort
because your teaching is struggling.”

Read my other post in this thread about Najee and Warren...that contradiction was my wake up call to the carnival barker we call Mike T.

Ben,Brown and Bell didn't give him the horses either. They'll never be enough horses.

He should go coach Alabama and see if just having a winning season is enough.

Nothing I have seen or heard from him gives me that impression.

The same as he has since he took over, NOTHING. He will TALK about wanting to see more from the team, then give Mediocre Mike another extension.
Rinse and repeat...........

For some reason the quote that keeps popping into my head is

"We're going to unleash hell in December"

The original post was not exactly but paraphrased perfectly if you will. It was spirit of what he said. For sure.
