With the draft now in the rearview mirror perhaps a few fans hearts are broken in two.
Maybe a coach you wanted replaced still stands. Maybe you didn't get the free agent you desired, maybe you didn't get the player(s) in the draft you desired. But let's look at what I think you did get:
Omar and the gang brought a hungry hungry hippo mentality to the board game. They were aggressive in free agency arguably upgrading inside linebackers (which how last years three stooges played - wasn't mission impossible Ethan) Aggressive in adding trench competition and depth. Quick to pull the trigger on Sutton's replacement even if it is a short term solution.
Then that welcomed approach was carried over into the draft. Where they attacked the trenches. Drafted not one but two corners, strengthening a weak positional unit. While at the same time building the running game, as well as pass protection which should help protect Kenny (perhaps no OMG they killed Kenny references this season). Not only does Washington bring a penchant for blocking, he should be red zone capable as well. In the process of freeing up Muth they should be able to catch defenses off guard by play action throwing it to Washington here and there as well. They thought Vance McDonald was hard to tackle? E I E I OH.
So a new season, a new journey...which hopefully ends with a playoff participation, and just maybe a win or two. two.. two...
Here I stand er sit wondering if Maulet and Chandon Sullivan are doppelgangers on the field, will the real slot corner real slot corner stand up? I wouldn't mind another body added here. But with two in the mix perhaps that is just wishful thinking at best.
Will Herbig be big this season as a pass rush specialist? Will he be up to the task? Too much to ask of a 4th rounder? Perhaps.
Hell even the Steelers starting punter could get well punted. That is adding competition, you know like in no stones unturned!
In seasons past I thought they didn't bring in enough to be competitive in all the areas of weakness. For me they are close to achieving that. I prefer at least an experienced pass rusher added to the woodpile.
That perhaps would help prevent by seasons end a few hearts broken in two.two..two...
