Here's our 53

Its a shame that a lot of the real promising prospects ended up on ir or waived injured… I thought Duke Dawson, Trice, and Alphonso Graham all could push for roster spots… and a bunch of other guys faded down the stretch… Robinson chief among them … kid has that playmaking ability but no consistency…

I see they kept an extra punter and let Gentry go……… WTF

Either Presley Harvin has it or he doesn’t, cost a roster spot for insurance.

Gentry was a good asset unless there is something I HADN’T HEARD.

They are trying to get something for Mann. My guess is a team will IR someone and then trade for him. By making their initial roster it can be a short term IR.

Gentry got caught in a numbers game. They can always bring him back if that is their plan after Mann exists or try to squeeze him in the PS. He is an ok player, I think the problem is the man who replaced him is seen as a better option as a blocker and as a red zone threat.

I totally agree with you on Gentry, didn’t think about the Mann trade possibility.

I do wear my thoughts on my sleeve and many times I’m wearing short sleeve T’shirts…….. go figure

Thanks for the straightening out.!

let me explain some of the possibilities about the Mann/Harvin potential trade…

1. A team asked us to carry one of them till tomorrow so they could carry a roster player into the season and then IR them and free up a roster spot without losing them for the season.
If this was the case then one of tge vested Vets we released, like Gentry, might have a handshake deal to just resign for the same money after the trade…. He wouldn’t be subject to waivers

2. It could also be a scenario where multiple teams are interested in him but were either hoping we cut him or hoping they got awarded Waitman off waivers… by holding on to him we are going to force someone’s hand

They aren’t keeping both, this move has trade written all over it.

I didn’t want to start another new thread, so I am putting this here…. Elijah Riley is a Safety, not a CB… sure he plays slot.. so did Norwood… but there were both backup Safeties as well…
I only feel the need to point this out, because some dim media types are currently pushing the “the Steelers have 7 CBs so they need to trade someone” angle…

So let me explain, in the vague hope that maybe it gets back to them and maybe it seeps through their skull why this isn’t a big deal

1 the team has 6 CBs, 5 Safeties and 4 Ilbs… but the reality is that is really broken down into players that can play:

Outside CB
Slot CB
Free Safety
Strong Safety
Will Ilb
Mike Ilb
Special teams coverage.

Players can have positional flexibility as Tomlin calls it.
So like last year we had Sutton, who could play inside and outside cb and Norwood who could play either safety position and slot cb… most notably we had Marcus Allen who could play Will or strong safety, but was primarily there for special teams… all of these guys have been replaced…
Riely is taking the Norwood roles… Peterson and King will both be used like sutton… and that is the key change here… they don’t really need that hybrid safety linebacker role that Marcus allen was doing, which is why they cut Tanner Muse…

They can swivel either safety to the line as a ilb type and push patpete into coverage as a safety

The real change is that they are keeping one fewer special teams ace… which means that for now, at least, Pierres job as a ST coverage guy is very safe… and trading or signing a 10th olineman or illogically another DB that doesn’t play special teams is just not happening
