Good article

Teams are probably licking their chops when they see the Steelers on their schedule.

😝

So my Take is that Tomlin hasn't lost anything. He never had it. He is a good communicator. He is a good leader in many respects. But he was never the x and o guy. He was never the fixer of problems by teaching. So then when the people who were left He was screwed. Now Ben is gone and the pig has no lipstick. He is Marvin Lewis with less chops and a better FO.

Good article

There's nothing in that article I can refute. The facts speak for themselves - I don't want it to be that way, but it is.

Tomlin is a likeable people-person. He needs to be in a broadcast booth.

A strong article that is on point.

Ironically, when Khan was retained (in-house hire, I know) for GM they at least interviewed a ton of folks, took their time and even brought in a new/additional person. But when it is time for coordinators it's like the Steelers are too lazy and grab whatever in-house coaching trash is at the top of the garbage can.

The best OC of the Tomlin era was Todd Haley, the only one that Tomlin DIDN’T hire. The best DC was Dick LeBeau, the only one that Tomlin DIDN’T hire.

it should be noted that the best hires the Steelers make are not ones that are promoted from within.

Tomlin was not a promotion from within.
Neither was Cowher.

One of those two insists upon promoting from within.

IMO, Tomlin's OC/DC should have full, unregulated control of the offense/defense. Tomlin should have input, of course, and put work in on game plans, signing off on them, but to call plays and neuter both sides of the ball? Nah. It obviously doesnt work that way.

I've called for Canada to be fired (even got banned on Facebook for saying we should "Nuke Canada") but I do wonder how things would unfold if he was allowed to call his own plays. Are those plays that work called by Canada or are those turtled 1-2 yard gains? Does Tomlin call for a 4-yard out pattern when we need 8 yards?

Agree and the bold part made me laugh :ROFLMAO:

Great article but I think the problem rests with ownership. They should have seen where they had Super Bowl caliber talent for years but our coaching staff squandered it, time and time again while great coaching staffs on other teams would make something out of UDFAs.

What is even more scary is how is Tomlin calling plays for either side of the ball without a play sheet? Ive never seen him with one (correct if I'm wrong). Even if its just one side of the ball, how could anyone remember the entire playbook by memory? Again correct me if I am wrong most play callers have a card that has the plays broken down into situations and what will work for what their current opponent likes to do, and based on strengths and weaknesses right? so are we to assume that Tomlin memorizes all this information as well? Im truly curious about this.

Sorry - this lost me. First you overwhelmingly make the case that Tomlin is a bad HC, then say he isn't. He is a bad Head Coach. If you're going to make a case stick to your convictions!

"You see, the Steelers aren’t lacking talent. They’re a bad football team because they have bad coaching. Bottom line. And they’ve had bad coaching for most of Tomlin’s tenure with the Steelers, they just had a Hall of Fame quarterback that was able to mask most of those shortcomings. Do I think Tomlin is bad head coach? No. Not at all. Do I think he should have far less control over the defense, and the hiring process entirely of his coordinators? You bet I do. Because in all these years of Tomlin being an elite head coach, as they say, what’s his coaching tree look like? Zilch. Not a single guy went on to be a head coach or take a promotion elsewhere. That’s pretty telling."

I can't tell you how many forums, facebook groups, local clubs (even one I started) I got run out of or a reputation in, for not liking Tomlin as a coach. I was done with him before the GB superbowl loss. He is easy to figure out, and a bust. Always has been, and it ain't changing.

Nice to have more see it. Just pisses me off that we squandered the bulk of Ben's career on this clown. That and the league loving brady over integrity, but that's another issue.

So many people like Tomlin. When I saw so many people it seems to be mostly non steelers fans. They all say they love him and would love to have him. The whole non losing season, been to two superbowls. Here is a fresh way to think about it.

Imagine you have company like Ferrari. They build someone a competitive top of the line car. That person goes out and wins a championship with this car. That person retires and that car is given to the new guy. The new guy goes on to win alot with that car but fails to maintain it. Doesn't change the oil, doesn't get it a tune up, doesn't replace parts as needed. Well this car is gonna smoke the competition for a little while but its a well oiled machine and if you do not keep in running like one then eventually its going to loose performance. as time goes on you lose to more and more competitors and eventually start losing to stock Hyundai's. All along you have been making everyone think you are a master mechanic and driver. Turns out you were just given a can't lose situation but as your skills have been put into it more and more we are starting to see that you aren't a good mechanic, you can't drive very well and you have no idea that what your machine needed stay on top.

make sense?

Funny you mention GB. I knew we might have a problem back then as well. Then, the Killer B's and I thought it's gonna be okay...But nope, it just doesn't change.

Tomlin himself said he shouldn't have to "teach" players how to play - that they should already know how to play coming to the NFL according to him. I need to back that up with a citation I know, and I will look...I think it was verbally in a presser when he was angry a few years ago.

Flat pisses me off. We look like the bungles or stains

Anyone see Cam Heyward retweet this?

Since they he untweeted it and posted this.

I've used twitter for many years and never had a butt retweet. In fact, when you hit the retweet button you have to confirm the action. But maybe it was an accident.

I'm guessing Cam liked the part about him hustling to make tackles but didn't take in the part about Tomlin being a fraud. He then revisited it.

I'm subscribing to the theory Cam was on his burner account searching his name, found the tweet and RT'ed it. Maybe it wasn't a burner account and he just wanted to send a message. The part about Tomlin is what stood out, the Heyward part was secondary. What's clear is he had to seek out the tweet and click twice to retweet it. However it happened, I don't believe for a second it was a "butt retweet."

Maybe he is losing the players. Every coach eventually gets to a point they stop 🎧 listening.

Tomlin not coaching with any urgency, that's for sure. He feels absolutely not pressure, it's why he feels comfortable hiring guys like Fichtner, Canada, and Austin for coordinator positions. On top of the prep week and game day decisions, his complete disregard for the offensive line and continued insistence on a conservative offense has run this team into the ground. That doesn't even speak to the issues with the defensive scheme. Tomlin has shown he can win with elite talent. When he has more talent on the field, he lets them take over, not the X's and O's. Either that or his HOF QB. All I know is the Steelers have more low lights over the past 3-4 seasons than the first three decades I spent watching this team.
