Hines' take: Players on 'O' need to be accountable

"Pittsburgh is dead last in time of possession, a key win/loss stat, at 24:15. For comparison, the team’s average time of possession in 2021 was 29:20 — over five minutes more than this season."

That says a lot - and we're close to last on a lot of other things. Sure isn't a winning formula.

Why wasn't he offered the Wr. Coaching job over the last several years?

The times when we had the WR coach job open Hines was already employed elsewhere.
I will mention that the one year he spent as the Jets' WR coach they were dead last in passing yards.

If Hines where on the sidelines coaching and Matt came out of the "box", I'm sure Hines would crack-back block him to smitherines........

my take...

This team needs an identity and Hines 100% right about accountability
We need some toughness and grit...like 86 displayed his entire career
Let's get Hines back here stat as our next OC

Go a step further and
Let's get a guy like Woodson as a HC

Build an identity and some football worthy of spending time watching again
No experience, no problem
I'm willing to take that leap to step out of mediocrity

Who was the Jet QB that year?

I actually think he'd make a better OC than position coach, but that could be cuz any step away from Canada seems like a positive move. My judgement may be impaired by what I've been witnessing. He did seem to always be able to find the soft spot of any zone showing great overall awareness of breaking down a zone coverage, with these concepts applied to our passing game coupled with athletic receivers it just can't be worse that Matt imo

I just think this team needs a infusion of toughness at every position. Hines would provide that for the WRs

The Steelers refuse to change anything broken. Soft zone coverage space? They continue with the same concept.

It really is beating a dead horse. Year in and year out

Zero accountability and zero imposing of any will. To say this isn’t your father’s Steelers is an under statement. Teams used to know they’d been in a football game with us even if we lost. There are multiple problems both in talent, coaching, and I’ll throw in ownership as well. The standard is the standard….. you got that right!!!!

All the way until about 10 yrs ago, when a team played the STEELERS, they knew it was going to be a physical battle. One of the greatest rivalries all time ever, in the NFL was against Baltimore and it seems we have been left in the dust in that aspect of the game.

Speaking of Ward, watching the games on TV, it hard to tell if the WRs are blocking downfield but Najee has only a few runs of more than 10 yards and none more than 16. It seems that whenever he makes it past the front 7, he is quickly met by a couple DBs.

It's because everyone knows we don't throw deep over the middle. We are truly one dimensional. Maybe that can change with Kenny.

Hines Ward and Rod Woodson have been named head coaches in the XFL. Woodson in Vegas. Ward in San Antonio.
Interesting. Great way to get experience, open up new doors for the big dance.
It seems that there is a lot of recycling going on in the NFL ,be nice to see a few new faces. Especially legendary Steelers. Mind you I don’t know how I’d feel if I saw Rod or Hines scheming against us in the SB. Guess I won’t have to worry about that for a while.
