The Pittsburgh Steelers have their quarterback of the future. With the 20th overall pick, they selected Kenny Pickett out of the University of Pittsburgh.

Pickett actually grew up in Northern New Jersey, but was recruited heavily by Pitt as a 3-star talent and eventually put pen to paper. He wasn’t an immediate starter, but worked his way to QB1 and helped lead Pitt to a conference title and the most wins in over 10 years; not to mention passing for over 4,000 yards and over 40 touchdowns. It was clear he was a special talent, and the Steelers thought so as well.
Pickett will already be used to the golden seats at Heinz Field and the crisp fall days of the Pittsburgh air. Now, he will be greeted by a few more thousand fans on Sundays instead of Saturdays.
Kevin Colbert, general manager, has been clear all along on his vision for the team after he retires following the draft. He wants to set the team up for success and now Tomlin will look to build off a solid foundation Pickett has laid to potentially battle Mitch Trubisky for the next QB1 for the Steelers.

“We circled the globe, or at least the United States the last several months exploring and researching and it’s funny, we ended up with the guy from next door, Head Coach Mike Tomlin said in regards to selecting Pickett. “We’re excited about it, we just are,” he adds.
