so i guess that means the front office has pretty much no aspirations to bring edmunds back on board?

Or Edmunds has no aspirations to come back.

I was watching Arthur Moats podcast yesterday and he said that the front office always tells their own that decide to test the market that there might not be a place for them on the Steelers squad when the smoke clears. He said that they tell them "Once you decide to test the market, we have to assume you're gone; and act accordingly"

That is the only way the organization can approach things and good that they're up front about it.

Makes perfect sense to me. When I was running a bigger crew and an employee said they were checking out another job offer I let them go that very day. I usually gave them a two week severence paycheck and said goodbye. Plumbing & HVAC construction.

I should say that I was very loyal to my loyal employees and paid better than everyone else. Bonus' and lots of perks.

I think they lack zeros on the cap space for that action. They still have to get Fitzpatrick done.
Sure, but they have a year to get Minkah done. Next year the Steelers have a ton of cash and can tag him if needed to work it out.

That would force minkah to play the SS role, see how that worked for him in Miami

Great point. Mathieu is a great fit for a team needing a FS. That team is not the Steelers. I take Minkah over Mathieu every day and twice on Sundays (get it?).

Love the guy. always have. Can we afford him?

YES, this team has been amazing at cap management so we can restructure or make a couple key cuts (Banner & Tuitt & Shobert come to mind).

EDIT: OOOoooopppppsssss I meant this for Miles Jack.

i thought matthieu was a strong safety?

The designation is not as cemented as say 20 years ago, but Mathieu lined up against slot receivers and WR's most of the time, not TE's, so he was more a free safety than a strong safety. As you undoubtedly know already, teams now have so many defensive formations and blitz packages that safeties can wind up as a FS one play, SS the next, Will backer the next. Generally, however, Mathieu took on WR's so he is better-categorized as a FS.

I would rather draft a gut like Smoke or Nick Cross or even O'neal from Texas A&M to play at the LOS and let Fitzpatrick roam the backend... If the Steelers grab the Honey Badger that is fine I like him as a player...
