I already know what most here’s stock answer would be.

I also know Art-deuce is a lot smarter (football inclusive) than most here.

Owners may sit back out of the way, but on season end…… I’m sure Art II put out a little “mandate” guidelines onto what he expects.

I do think this draft was ownership influenced to a degree, but theme (physical run / OL) mandating certain picks. RUN 1st offense, physical identity, solid players with character type picks.

I think ARII probably wanted a good running back two years ago. He probably wanted a young QB to take over for Ben and there happened to be one next door last year. I'm sure he wanted someone to help those two guys with Jones. The hometown Porter is tough to pass up as well. I won't go as far as saying he mandated it, but rather guides the draft. He wanted a good ground game and they tried to fix it with a first-round RB. When that didn't work, they invested mid-round draft picks. When that didn't work, they went out and spent a lot of money on free agents and then drafted a tackle in the first round.

Obviously this is purely speculation.....
I gotta imagine The II has his "exit" interviews each year and picks the brains of Tomlin and Khan to get a feel of where they think the team is, who needs to go, who needs to stay, etc.
I think it's mostly Tomlin and his staff and Khan and his staff doing the talking with II just listening and soaking it in.
When it comes time for off-season acquisitions and/or the draft, II would break any ties or differences between Tomlin and Khan.
It seems like, and this goes back to the Cowher/Colbert era, that The Rooneys as owners make sure the GM and Coach talk to each other and get on the same page, even if they have different opinions. And that they as the owners step in when there's a BIG discrepancy, ala the Big Ben pick, which Cowher famously did not want to make because he wanted to get OT Shawn Andrews to help protect Tommy Maddox and get the run game going.
I think the scouting department and Colbert thought something was there and Cowher wasn't as sold, so Dan Rooney stepped in.
The Rooneys are NOT Jerry Jones/Dan Snider/Al Davis owners playing real life fantasy football.
They hire who they think are the capable people and let them operate how they see fit and step in only if absolutely necessary.

Great post fedderone and great minds think alike.

The Jerry’s / Dan’s / under mine their coaching staff at times and make if very difficult to execute a philosophy when they change direction to acquire a favored (owner) player.

Rooney’s keep it more real and actually let the (employees) Coaching / GM-ing do their jobs. I see him as the “big” brother mediator, called apon if needed, but also monitoring as they go.

This year seemed to be a great fit with Kahn and Wiedl working togethe, to bring this draft home.

Thanks for all your great post(s) fedderone and keep eM coming.

One can only hope...

Yep, I’m tired of this *****-***-ed football we’ve been playing these last several years. We need physical nasty “JAMES HARRISON” type football. Our identity needs to go back to that physical type attitude and game.

When we got pushed around by the Bungles and even the Clowns,…… that was it. We have always been the bad-*** big brother picking on the other divisional teams, but lately we’ve been the whipping boy.

The LT and the DL draftee’s, seem to have that attitude and I welcome that.

I think I’ve been a bit to critical of Art II in the past and not given him enough credit.
I think he’s a hands on owner without being a pain in the *** ala Jerry Jones and lets his people do their jobs.
He made a nice move by promoting the Kahn Artist to GM and hiring Andy Weidl as assistant GM. And he lets them do their jobs.
I’ve been skeptical of his treatment of Tomlin and think he’s made Tomlin a bit too comfortable but he sees him in a different light than I do so there’s that.
All in all Art II has been a good owner and promoting Omar and hiring Andy were great moves by him.
As for the draft I think he lets it be known where he’s leaning. Meaning, he drives home his point to his people that he wants more physical football hence the additions in FA and the OL and DL selected high.
We shall see if he continues to support Tomlin if he doesn’t deliver a winner soon. I mean at least get to the playoffs and win a damn game.

Gonna need a time traveling machine for that

Funny you should bring that up…………. I travel far and wide, here and there, now, future, and in the past all while being in my SPIRIT world.

Occasionally I see you and wave, but for some reason you don’t wave back……….
