How much does OC matter?

SF has a really good team and front office. They do a great job drafting talent and overall building of their team.
Very good head coach and coordinators too.
The kid is put in position to succeed unlike here.

Yeah, Shanahan does a heck of a job in San Francisco and has a coaching tree as well. The acquisition of CMC completely changed the trajectory of their season. They play great defense, have an excellent offensive line with a good run game and one of the best playmaking receivers in the NFL. Night and day between that and our offensive staff.

Yet.......to trade up for Trey Lance at #3
They gave up their 12th that year
First round 2022
First round 2023
Third round 2022.

What are your opinions about this?

They ****** up, they went full blown browns. Never go full blown browns.

They should have invested into Jimmy imo.

Terrible idea, terrible trade. Giving up that much is never going to work out. Teams are built on the affordable talent acquired via draft. 2nd contracts kill rosters.

I’m not a believer in trading future premium picks like that on unproven draft picks. I know to draft high to get your QB you have to do that and it’s a crap shoot but they believe they got their guy in Trey Lance.
I know he’s hurt so we’ll have to see how this works out for them.
I hated to move up for Bush giving up our second in that draft and third the next draft.
Could really use those drafts picks now on the OL and DL,

At least for Lance they were giving up a lot for a premium position player. The Steelers gave up that much for a player who wasn't a QB, LT, EDGE, or shutdown CB.

There is no book on purdy…yet… after today there will be lol he’s not bad he gets rid of the ball quick he doesn’t hold it… qbs the hold the ball thinking the receivers going come open are sadly mistaken and not long for this league like Wilson with the jets and trubisky. he’s a back up doesn’t really have the arm strength to be a full time starter. We are so far behind where the 9ers are its getting scary and you have to wonder if we are going to be able to get back to “Steeler football“ any time soon. You think the 49ers would sign a flunked out retread coach to coach their defense? or a journeyman college coach for the offense? We are what we are we are what you should expect us to be. We are the total sum of our parts. The thing about the 9ers is, the names change but 9ers keep winning. We stink pure and simple. In the off season we’ll get to hear how we have to give tomlin time only one losing season after all, got to give the coaches more time they are under contract after all… Jesus wept!!! We are going to be one of those teams who's only highlight will be the draft! Fire everybody hire the 9ers DC and their receiver coach as our OC and get this train back on the tracks. Worked for the jets lol

Is it simply the OC? I don’t think it is. I think it’s organizational rot.
I agree. It feels like we're becoming the new Lions, or Bengals, or Browns. Hopefully that's just an overreaction, but we seem pretty $hitty. Even when we all thought we were loaded with talent, we didn't do much with it. Now, with a few exceptions, it seems like we are thin on talent. Pickens seems like might be a bit freakish on the offensive side, but we don't even throw to him.

Maybe it's just that we suck in the trenches.

They are what the Steelers could be with a better HC and staff.

If they want to get to the next level with Kenny, they need a next level offensive coordinator.

Coaching and talent. There are guys having breakout seasons now that were disappointing early on.

Tua - He threw short early and isn't exactly known for having a rocket arm. Miami had a subpar offensive line and they give him Waddle and Hill. McDaniels is a bright offensive mind as well. Before this year, there was talk the Dolphins made a big mistake taking him over Herbert. His YPA went from under 7.0 to 8.7 this year and he nearly has as many touchdowns this season (22) than his first 23 games (27). May be considered an MVP candidate.

Hurts - Not even drafted in the first round, not many were looking at Hurts as a franchise QB. He wasn't very good as a rookie, completing only 52% of his passes. He's already equaled his first two years TD total this year at 22 and has a career-high 68% of his passes completed. He's obviously developed as a passer and the addition of Smith and Brown have certainly helped. A legitimate MVP candidate this year.

Lawrence - His rookie year was held back by Urban Meyer and they are in recovery mode still. Jacksonville still doesn't have much talent, but Lawrence has flashed some of the talented we expected to see as the No. 1 pick. Overall, though, he hasn't performed how they would expect in Jacksonville, but he's shown that upside this year and I think they need to make a big move for a stud receiver.

Fields - He stunk as a rookie except when he played the Steelers. The Bears have opened things up and allowed him to become a dual threat this season and he's produced better. He still isn't a good passer and plays for a team that traditionally ruins QBs, but there has been growth and if he takes a year-three leap, they Bears can get real good real fast.

Wilson - This is the guy who was suppose to have the arm talent and he stinks. He got benched for a late-round pick and doesn't even have the backup job over Joe Flacco.

Jones - Jones had a solid rookie season and seems to have regressed since then. Tough to say if he'll improve in year three or if he's already maxed out.

There are six guys who had average to bad rookie seasons. Two are MVP candidates, two are still questions, and a third may be showing signs of regression or maxing out. I don't know what Pickett will look like in year three, but what gives me confidence is his A+ work ethic and "it factor" he's always had about him. There are concerns not having an elite arm and his tendency to have happy feet in the pocket. They failed to prepare in advance for a young QB, so if I'm the Steelers I go all-in on building talent on the offensive side of the ball.
