I have a big freakin problem with the NHL Playoff format

Last year, the Pens were the #2 seed in the East and played the #1 seed Washington in the first round. This year is even worse.

Here is the league seedings with the current playoff matchups:

#2 Pens
#4 Columbus

#1 Caps
#14 Toronto

#7 Montreal
#9 Rangers

#12 Ottawa
#13 Boston

#3 Chicago
#16 Nashville

#5 Minnesota
#10 St Louis

#6 Annaheim
#15 Calgary

#8 Edmonton
#11 San Jose

This is just terrible. In the East, the Pens play the 4th best team in the league round one. Then, if they advance, they may play the #1 seed in round 2 for the second time in 2 years. While the other side of the eastern bracket has much less talent. Giving worse teams like Ottawa, Boston, or Rangers a chance to make the Eastern finals without having to play a top 4 team! It is time to reseed the playoffs, because these matchups are bullshit. Just have all 8 teams in the east and west, get their seeding from their records. No divisions for the playoffs.

Is anyone else as mad about this as I am?
 
The playoff format is dumb, but that is the NHL for you. Stuff like this is why I get ticked when the NFL talks about messing with their playoff format, by far the best in professional sports IMO.
 
yea, it's terrible. Pens should be playing Boston,or Ottawa but ousting CBJ will be oh so sweet. Still if it was going the other way, i'd be jacked, as I'm sure CBJ fans are. It doesn't make sense. The NHL needs their heads examined.
 
Completely backwards....the #1, 2 and 4 team fighting to get to the third round while the 7,9, 12 & 13 fight for the other slot. They need to use the NFL format

#3 CBJ down 0-3
Blackhawks down 0-3
Caps down 1-2
Rangers down 1-2
Wild down 0-3


Only one Metro team may make it out of the first round.

This isn't football. Regular season seeding don't mean crap - you just have to get to the dance

Pens played NYR in round one last year Cope, the seeding doesn't mean much imo. Get in and anything goes. These are all professional hockey clubs, and they all play with pride. I have no gripe. Officiating has been horrible though

You're right MTC I meant second round as opposed to the Eastern finals.

Yay, it's O-*******-Ficial. #1 vs #2 in the second round of the playoffs, for a second straight year. SMFH...
 
The second round is set and it's now official the #1 and #2 seeds will play in the second round for 2 years in a row. Here are the playoff matchups:

The winner of the Pens/Caps series should win the cup.

It is just criminal that the Rangers have an easier path to the Eastern finals than either the Caps or Pens.

that's the problem I have with the seeding. The Pens were going to face the Craps no matter what, but they get OTT and we get WASH, and vice-versa to get to the CF. Other than that, drop f'n puck!
