I did not expect the SB. I said that on so many occasions. I did not even necassarily expect a playoff win. I was thrilled with what they were at 10-3. And it wasn't just the record. Was the way it looked and how they came back after devastating loss to Browns. That is why this is such a ****** gut punch. All I wanted was to have an off season of optimism about a team maybe on the upswing. Now this last five weeks. Just unbelievable

You should be optimistic. The film study room will turn into a cemetery for a few days. Players and coaches are going to get killed off after the film is reviewed.

Major changes are coming. The roster will look completely different. Tomlin may survive this off-season but they must be looking at their options going forward. This is the beginning of the end of Tomlin era - if not the end.

If by the "beginning of the end" you mean Tomlin is under his last contract with the Steelers, you might have a point, but there are still three more years to go.

There is no way Rooney is going to eat all that money he foolishly committed to Tomlin last summer.

The icing on the cake was Rooney agreeing to a no-trade clause with Tomlin, limiting the Steelers options if they wanted to explore that route over the winter.

Just a total cluster **** from top to bottom.

This really cannot be stated more accurate to the situation. Even a team like the Bungles will be in a better off season situation. Joe's cap hit will come down comparable to other Qs at his level. This is NFL purgatory and we gotta ride it out for probably two more seasons.

Oh the owner could make it difficult to stay if he wanted to. Just take away his authority over the OC,DC and have an Assistant HC to split power with.

And no say so at all in the draft. Be reduced to just a figure head. He'd want a trade. Which would be a win/win for everyone for a fresh start.

It's just frustrating to know that we're stuck in this situation for several more years, and there's noone to blame but ownership at this point.

Many of those who were mocking the frustrations others had over Tomlin being extended don't seem too amused now, as even they're starting to recognize the reality of Tomlin after this season's collapse.

And to think if Rooney did not offer that totally unjustified extension to Tomlin, we'd be free of him now, enabling a true turning of the page and an opportunity to achieve something different from what we've seen over the past decade.

The Steelers are currently set to continue pissing into the wind, regardless of changes made to the roster or the coaching staff this off season

Very well put. I think the reality of this is far less sinister then many think. I think you have a couple men Tomlin and Kahn (Colbert before) trying to keep jobs best they can by putting a competitive team on field. And they do. But that is at odds with what us required to not be competitive but contenders.

It doesn't seem within Art2's character to go that route, and he probably still isn't as dissatisfied with Tomlin as he should be.

He talked a big game after last season about things needing to improve, only to extend Tomlin months later before waiting on any progress.

Actions speak louder than words, and I seriously question where Art2's priorities are at this point. I have a hard time believing Dan would have tolerated Tomlin for this long.

Tomlin has 3 more years left under contract.
Smith has 2 more years left under contract
Austin has 1 more year left under contract

Even though Canada was fired last year during the season ....the Steelers usually don't fire coaches under contract.

Unless a change it looks like I have three years of no watching on the horizon.

Guess it is what it is is.

With 100 sincerity I can say that where the teams stand today the Carolina Panthers are closer to winning a playoff game than the Pittsburgh Steelers are.

🤯

Maybe it’s the start of something new.

Firing Canada during the season was an act of desperation. These are desperate times.

One of the frustrating things about three more years is that the strong possibility exists that he has three years to make other teams see his level of poor coaching. That will ruin his value in the eyes of desperate team out there - such as the Bears are now - and lower his trade value, possibly to zero.

People read too much into coach no trade clauses... they are boilerplate... pretty much all of them have them, which is why the few coaches that have been traded had total control where they went and why teams gave them raises and extensions to agree to the trade...

While I will be Andy Dufresne and HOPE you are correct, I will not be holding my breath.
Instead of ending up like Red and Andy, we're all going to end up like Brooks.

See, the one thing Tomlin does well is establish a locker room ... which is why he keeps whack job players mostly in line for a bit, at least

A team trying to hire him will be trying to build a culture... the other stuff will be second place...
remember, having a winning record every season would be fantastic to certain franchises...

He sure as hell isn't building a championship culture. He was handed one, with the coaches, and he pissed it away.

That's all gone now. This is what it's been replaced with. Mediocrity.

Sure, but we are looking at him from the eyes of a team that thinks 1 superbowl every 32 years is a bad thing, not the current average...

Take a look at the bears..

Since 2007 (18 seasons)they have had:

Winning Seasons: 4
8-8 seasons: 4
Losing seasons: 10
Division Championships: 2
Last place in Division: 7
Playoffs made: 3 times (one of which was an 8-8 year )
Playoff games won: 2
Championship Games made: 1
Super Bowls made: 0
Super Bowls won: 0

Tomlins steelers:

Winning Seasons: 15
8-8 seasons: 3
Losing seasons: 0
Division Championships: 7
Last place in Division: 0
Playoffs made: 12****(with 7 playoff teams instead of 6, he also would have made the playoffs in 12,13,18, and, 19 only missing in 09 by losing a tiebreaker and finishing 8th, just as he did in 2022....)
Playoff games won: 8
Championship Games made: 3
Super Bowls made: 2
Super Bowls won: 1

There is no world where a chicago or cleveland or simular skunked team wouldnt want a Tomlin like guy... even if it was just to lay a foundation of winning for the next decade

The decision to ink Tomlin's unjustified contract is almost the head coach version of the Deshaun Watson contract the Browns signed.
Just completely unjustifiable and makes no sense.

I sure hope so, but I'm pessimistic.

We have been just good enough to never be in position to get our Joe Burrow. We are stuck in mediocrity wasting players like TJ.

How many of those stats are reflective of the roster talent? If Mike Tomlin is the Head Coach of Chicago since 2007, are we prepared to say that Chicago would have gone 18 seasons at .500 or better? I'm certainly not. I'm of the opinion that if we had hired Andy Reid with the rosters that Tomlin had, we'd have at least a few more Lombardi trophies in the cases.
