IBM unveils plan to hire 25,000 in US on eve of Trump meeting

US technology giant IBM said Tuesday it would hire 25,000 people in the country over the next four years, a day before President-elect Donald Trump meets with tech industry leaders.

About 6,000 of those hirings will occur in 2017, IBM chief executive Ginni Rometty said in an opinion article published in the newspaper USA Today.

IBM, which has undertaken in recent years a restructuring of its activities, will invest $1 billion on employee training and development in the next four years, said the IBM president, chairman and CEO.

Not correct, the majority of shares in IBM (the consulting company listed on the NYSE - IBM did sell their personal computer division to Chinese owned Lenovo a few years ago) are held predominantly by American mutual funds whose investors are likely to be mainly Americans. It would be useful for other forum users if before posting thought bubbles in future you either:

1) Fact check with credible sources or;

No. I worked with IBM for years. They sold off their struggling PC business and the laptop ( thinkpad ) to china. Then china renamed the company Lenovo.

China also put spyware on Lenovo and it was barred from federal use. But that was a while back.

The H1B is misunderstood. It's a brain drain on other nations and capped at a certain amount accepted per year

While the USA is behind most major nations, it's really our bottom 30%, consisting of groups that do not value school or first generation Americans struggling to adapt. Other nations just don't have these problems in proportion to ours, but to suggest it here in the press would make you racists. Take this 30% out, and I bet the nation rated mush higher and also has more high score students due to our population size.

The other problem is federal bureaucracy in schools. Terrible.

These jobs are the result of the Obama administration support for the P-Tech school model that IBM supports and helped found.
They are schools blending regular high school curriculum with a high-tech curriculum and having high school graduates ready
for available jobs right out of high school. IBM was having a hard time finding qualified candidates to fill open positions so
they took the initiative, along with the State of New York, to create these new type of schools.

We have record numbers of job openings currently and many of these openings go unfilled because people aren't qualified for the
jobs of the future. We should be fast tracking and funding more of these P-Tech model schools as well as other Vocational training
options at the high school level.
