The Big 12 and Mid-American conferences both announced Sunday that the officiating and instant replay crews who worked the Central Michigan-Oklahoma State game have been suspended for two games.

The MAC suspended the eight officials who worked the game on Saturday after they wrongly awarded Central Michigan an extra play after time had expired, resulting in the Chippewas' winning Hail Mary-and-lateral touchdown.

"After a thorough review and evaluation of the entire Central Michigan at Oklahoma State contest, we have decided to suspend the officiating crew for the next two consecutive weeks," Bill Carollo, the coordinator of football officials for the Collegiate Officiating Consortium, said in a statement. "I have personally informed the crew of our decision."



The Big 12 also suspended its two-man instant replay crew for two games and will not allow that group to work a bowl game this season.

That said, why is it they allow the "W" to teams that have won in this fashion (ref mistakes)? Wouldn't this be like having an ineligible player on the field? Teams have "W's" stripped for that. I am a CU fan, and it sucks they they're forever linked to 5th down (the year they split the National Championship). If it IS an ineligible down, play etc, why is it counted moving forward since there is a factual mistake that aided the victory? Just a thought.
Oh.. and BTW, OSU, take a damn knee next time.

Well you can blame the refs and say OSU won, but it should have never came down to that. OSU could have won that game a million different ways, but they simply blew it. Take a knee, run the ball, or punt the ball OB would have done it. They deserve to get the loss for stupidity.

The result should not stand. The Conference Office (MAC) should award the game to Oklahoma State. The game was over. Period. The officials on the field allowed an extra play that should not have happened and therefore the game was, in fact, over.

That said...

The rule is also dumb. Regardless of the nature of the penalty (loss of down, dead ball foul, whatever), there should be an extra untimed down awarded. In this case, the rule reads that if the penalty includes a loss of down, there is not an untimed down allowed...that's just dumb. The rule should be changed.
