Ike retires

About time, he thought Titans wanted him but he got no response from any team. He won't be missed.

Salute to Ike.. a staple and a Steeler legend.. I hope he has a wonderful life after football

He got to play out his contract, and it's time. Good luck to him. While not the best (hands of stone), he was pretty damn solid during his prime.

WTF?

Ike's been a warrior for us and an amazing locker room presence throughout his career. Good luck Ike in your life after football and thanks for all the amazing plays throughout the years.

Godspeed Ike.
Steelers.com article says he is going to help coach the defense in spring OTA's.
Like Troy, it was simply time.

Another guy who never played for another team. I like this trend of players riding to the end!

Seriously? Guy had a great career and helped this team win 2 titles. One of the stupidest comments I've ever read on this board.

Can't see me...If Ike could catch he would have really been something..as it was he was a solid CB for us for most of his time here..he had his ups and his downs (like most corners) but he did his job..probably should have retired a couple of years ago ..but for a stretch there he played some very solid corner for us ..usually going up against the other teams top WR..The hate here will I'm sure rain down on Ike as it did already ..Make a mental list of the CB's we have had since Rod...I personally think Ike is pretty damn close to the top of that list...Thanks for everything Ike...well minus the hands of stone of course.

it was a pleasure watching him stick to other teams' #1's like flies on **** in his prime, a great career and happy he got to start and end his pro career in Pittsburgh

Thanks for everything Ike, enjoy retirement!

Ike has always been a class act and very solid player. Great cover man and made his share of big plays for the team. Best wishes for a very happy retirement, Ike!

Thanks for the memories Ike.

Ike is a good dude. Was solid and in his prime. Best of luck with wherever life takes you next.

Mel Blount, Rod Woodson

Those were the only better Cornerbacks in modern Steelers history. This guy was not a playmaker, but he played a long career within his own abilities and routinely shut down opposing WRs with little fan fare. Maybe you mean the past his prime is one thing...but I would love the 2008 Ike on this team now.

Good luck Ike.

Boy our defensive backfield has taken a hit this off season.

I guess he finally realized there was nothing left out there for him. It was time.

He was a very good player for the Steelers. He was as underrated as they come. If he could have caught the dang ball, he would have made a few more pro-bowls. Thanks for the memories, Ike!

he only caught them when it mattered.

I think worse than his hands was his ability to anticipate and jump on the ball. What did he have his whole career? 1 pick 6?

DeShea Townsend had 3 in one season if I'm not mistaken.

Nonetheless, Ike could cover and deny the big play, shutting down top notch WRs his whole career. Chad Ocho Idiot never caught more than 3 balls vs. him for example.

Ike will be a Steeler for life, was very loyal to the organization and always was a stand-up guy. He gave everything he had to this team. He WILL be missed. Another solid presence gone from that locker room. Thank you for your time here, Ike! #24 rides off into the sunset.

Ike was key in that great run from '05-'10. He's earned his retirement. Wonder what the Beard is thinking at the moment.

INT's are nice but a DB's main job is to keep the other guy from catching the ball, which Ike was very good at.
Still, one of my favorite moments in Steelers history was about three years ago when the Steelers lined up for an onsides kick and the announcers noted that Ike was on the "hands team" and started laughing.

Am I the ONLY one here who thinks he could have played Safety for a year or two?!
Our current crop of CBs needs a veteran presence or two.

I hope the Steelers have plans up their sleeves. We can't draft an entire secondary in one year, and Mike Mitchell needs help because he's not an elite playmaker, or at least has yet to show it.
He needs to be surrounded by good players, STAT!

PEACE
