Morning

This might've been addressed but Im not sure. Yesterday during Lucks run on 3rd & 19 he got 18 yards but there was a illegal hands to the face on the defenese....now from my understanding that means either the colts take the 5 yds and automatic 1st from the original LOS or decline it and face 4th & 1....this did not happen...they added 5 yards to the end of the run?
My question is this right? Or did the refs screwed it up? If so how come Tomlin or DL or munchack or Haley didn't protest it? What is the actual rule ?

I said the same thing. No way they should have received both.

I don't understand it, but it's not the first time I've seen it this year. I always thought if it as an either or, scenario as well, but it's being ruled as a combination. I understand adding yardage on to the end of returns, but not from a scrimmage play.

I don't think "anyone" knows how this call should turn out. Almost every game this season I've seen this erroneous call and I blame Roger...

Rules are getting ridiculous. Its a flag on every play in every game...what Goodell is doing is taking away the essences of football...he wants. 51-34 type game every Sunday.

I agree, we received the same call later in the game and they did not add the 5 yards at the play.

Colts got some major 3rd and long bailout flags in their favor. Ticky tack or whatever, we need to clean that up

Ben got ringed on a helmet to helmet hit... crickets

The refs @#$&ed up that call. Unless the penalty is a dead-ball foul - and the illegal hands to the face is NOT - then the team has the choice of EITHER the penalty OR the play. Not both.

The Colts were called for an offensive holding when the Steelers had a sack. I guess the Steelers should have received the 10 yards in addition to the sack, right?

I agree, it is supposed to be either/or, not both. I have never seen that before.

And at the end of the game when that jerk teed off on Ben, I really wanted to see one of the o-linemen throw him to the ground. I saw Foster kind of walking over towards him, but I don't think he actually did anything.

NFLN (which I no longer watch closely) used to have official review. It was actually a good segment and brought a lot of these things to light. Even someone like myself who has officiated a lot of football was often proved wrong on Tuesday, because the NFL's rulebook and interpretation is evolving constantly (not a good thing). Is that segment still on.

Just sent in a comment to NFL network to clarify dead ball live ball fouls on Official Review. It was surprisingly easy. Interested to see if anything comes of it.

Helmet to helmet is illegal no matter what is happening.

Wrong. You can hit a runner helmet to helmet. Ben was a runner in this instance because he had left the pocket and tucked the ball. It was still a dirty hit, but completely legal...unfortunately.

Several OL walked that way, Antonio Brown did as well. I'm sure they gave the guy an earful and thought better of getting a stupid penalty at that point in the game. They simply needed to say "scoreboard *****". You want to see the fire, but you want to see them be smart about it. Good restraint from those guys...

I wanted to see more than talk in that situation. The game was over. I'm sure you're right - the smart thing was to show restraint. But damn, it would've been nice to see them show everyone that BS is unacceptable. However, knowing Roger - someone would've been suspended for a game.

The only difference I can see is that it was tacked on because it was a running play. On passes, it's either/or. I think.
