Watching NFL Network greatest INTS of all-time...It is listed as #2 all-time INT after Malcolm Butlers....But Harrison denied 8 tacklers..Lamar Woodley threw a vicious block that gave more life as did Ryan Clark.

QUESTION: No time is remaining---WHAT IF Fitzgerald tacked him say at the 1 yard line? He came from out of bounds....How would refs have ruled this? I know half can't end on a penalty so we would have had one more shot? Man what a freakin great play, 14 point swing

After rewatching that i almost regret burning my 92 jersey. Almost

The ruling would have been it was half time. If he doesn't run it in, we do not score and probably wouldn't have won the SB. It was a HUGE play, to say the least.

I think if Fitzgerald tackled him and was subsequently flagged for illegal participation, the Steelers would’ve got one play even though the half had ended. Not sure if the ball would’ve been spotted where he was tackled or if any yardage would’ve been tacked on as a result of the penalty. Personally I think in situations like that, the team that was going to score had the illegal tackle not occurred should be awarded the touchdown. A team should never get to benefit.... which in this case would have been a HUUUUGE benefit.... from a penalty that they committed. Say that play goes down as previously described and the Steelers get their untimed down, but elect to kick a field goal or even worse decide to go for it and fail. In all likelihood, Pittsburgh loses that game. One could argue that a penalty committed by the winning team was the single biggest play which enabled a team to win the Super Bowl. That would be ****** up to say the least.

I agree with you. Great point. That should be a rule. But tomblin done same thing to ravens kick returner on sidelines. Remember. #SNUPROUD

That's a big if. Did they even throw a flag on the play? I don't recall one.

Illegal participation is for any player coming onto the field of play from the sidelines and was not a participant on the same down. Fitz ran out of bounds due to incidental contact. As long as he directs himself back into the field of play immediately there is no foul. Happens all the time with gunners being forced out of bounds. As long as they make an effort to get immediately back into the field of play they can participate on the same play. They cannot be the first person to touch a live ball however.

But when you watch the replay he runs out of bounds for a long time or he would have got caught up in all the players at about the ten. This is something that I've always wanted to know.

Just watched it again. He ran the better part of 20 yards. Maybe more out of bounds. Had he went back in at first opportunity he would have been blocked out by his own man. I cannot believe considering the importance of the play it has never been explained.

Yeah...Sask, it was discussed after the game about whether Larry came back on the field fast enough. NFL Radio had Fox’s analyst Pereira the week after the game in their morning show. He discussed the play and why no flag....he mentioned that Fitz got directed OOB by a Steeler CB (Townsend) and because Timmons threw the block that redirected Fitz and another Cardinal deeper in to the bench that was the reason for allowing him to run further up the sidelines. The funny thing about it, the Cards own OL took Larry’s angle away at the end. Had he didn’t he would have caught him. Pereira said they did look at it during replay.

That is interesting. First time I heard that. Just watched it about 5 times. Fritz gets borderline clipped by Troy at the 50. If he would have fell he might have got the call but it looked like a bump and might have got his head out front. He bumped into Townsend. He then proceeded to run pretty damn close 40 yards out of bounds. And certainly that gave him angle he never would have had. If that was legal it shouldn't have been.

Oh and i think Fitz was ineligible to make a tackle at the end of the play.

Perhaps Mystery Solved:
Pereira said, "The only time you can't go out of bounds is during a kick."
I Googled Mike Pereira James Harrison SB int. It was an examination of some calls in the game. That came up.

There was a flag on the play.

AZ OL grabbed Timmons facemask and had a PF called on him. We declined the penalty and it was a TD.

If we were ruled down at the 1 yard line. I am assuming because the ball changed hands the half cannot end. Ball moved half the distance to the goal.

Gambler Tomlin goes with his gut, our ****** OL gets stuffed when Arians goes empty backfield Ben gets sacked on a seven step drop.

Maybe back then he would've called the QB sneak. ;)

Sure it isn’t “The only time you CAN go out of bounds is doing a kick”?

Nevertheless I always though Woodley got away with a block in the back on the run back.

They're showing this game tonight on NFL Network at 8:30.

Recording it...After we won the game I watched it like 10X...Ex wife was like STOP, we won already.....

At a SB party and when FITZ went 78 yards they were all yelling...all of a sudden...They were not even fans of the Cards...

******* great game...gonna watch it and forget about life for awhile

Massive play. Huge part of that win. If it would have swung 14 points differently might have lost. However, I'm not a person who goes if he would have been tackled they lose. You cannot say that. Changes every dynamic of the game. They kinda turtled a bit offensively. Had the game been closer they may not have.

I forgave Harrison a long time ago. He is a Steeler hero in my book. The play was the longest in SB history and certainly one of the greatest. We're not going to embrace it/him?

Dude just wanted to play and I saw no evidence that the players starting ahead of him were better. Tomlin I think just wanted to move on and play the younger guys but as usual was a poor judge of talent on defense.
