Nice “Home Page” article about upcoming extension for Jr.

It also has a bit of the Dad and making “speak” on how to prepare and they will be ready.

Dad’s not doing anything that a normal concerned parent wouldn’t due, but my gut feeling is I don’t like the parent(s) involved. Sometimes they lead to over-confident steering of the off-spring. (Think Sheurder Sanders)

Obviously Porter Jr. deserves the extension, but when you add in the dad arrogance…… they will be asking for what I* think will be about 25% higher than merit.

Things will get ironed out in the end, both parties will be satisfied, or so I hope……………..

It's tough being a good father. You have to let them fail and learn and be there for guidance when asked for it. I could be reading Peezy and Peezy Jr's relationship incorrectly, but the optics suggest that Peezy is a shadow in Jr's light. Joey Sr. needs to let Jr speak for himself and his contract situation. It's as ridiculous as my son being asked about his impending raise and I answer for him.

Shutting his mouth was never Joey Sr's strong suit.

His dad needs to keep his expectations tempered a bit. Sure, he is going to make a good pay day but he has not elevated himself to pro bowl and all-pro type players. Some of those just signed for over $30 million per. He should be more in line with $25 to $27 (maybe a little higher but not $30 million) million per season with a good amount guaranteed - at least $50 million. Give him a 4 or 5-year deal and call it a day.

Boz is slotted in probably a little higher than $7 million per to make him the highest paid kicker.

Benton is a wild card to me. He is serviceable and a decent player but he should not be paid anywhere near a top 10 DL but maybe in that top 20 to 25 range.

Then, there is Herbig. I have no clue what they will offer him, but hopefully it is something decent as a base but with significant incentives - number of plays, sacks, TFL's, etc. Probably make it a 3 or 4 year deal - basically something they can renegotiate with him or even let him go depending on how his next few seasons go.

P.S. Sorry to hijack the thread by talking about other players.

Well Lamars mom got him a great extension. And then helped get Harbage fired this year.

Wasn't it Tomlin who let Peezy walk and then axed him as a LB coach?

Its a pretty easy contract to calculate actually. Sauce Gardiner got 30 million Ave. Mcduffie got 31. Joey Jr is at least Sauce Gardiner and the top is not far off. Price of rice and if they were gonna trade him cause they dont like that price..... it would have been before draft.
