Odds are that Justin Fields will the QB1 next year. I took a quick look at his stats for the past 17 games (one full season). Six were with the Steelers and 11 with the Bears. I just went with the major stats that were easy to calculate. There's probably a site that will put all the stats together but I don't know it.

Passing TD: 19
Rushing TD: 8
Total TD: 27
INT: 7
Passing Yards: 3,241
Rushing Yards: 826
Total Yards: 4,067
Completion Pct: 63.1%
Fumbles Lost: 4
Sacks: 50

Those are pretty close to Jalen Hurts numbers, with half the talent around him. We'll see if he can improve upon this in 2025.

I'm just trying to find reasons to be optimistic.

No one denies his mad skills. They are stratospheric. It's his inability to read a defense that concerns me. This can be coached up, but not convinced that Tomlin et al can to that coaching.

I’m along for the ride, send Justin out here to my place and I’ll coach him similar to the coach in “Dodge-Ball”.

So from what ive gleamed from a series of pro breakdowns about him, Fields big problem is still he overrelies on his arm strength. The bears tried to adjust his mechanics but it dropped his accuracy.
This creates issues particularly with over the middle throws.
Since the braintrust really hates turnovers in tge middle of the field, they probably do just bring back wilson because he throws those balls that drop in over tge side of the field... and that's what they want....

We had fields revert to his ohio state mechanics and it solved some stuff, but created other issues... he would be best served finding a true qb guru before he is any older... i think he could still revamp his stuff the way he needs to...

It just sucks that this would have to be on him. I know a ton of guys do it, but the Steelers need to step up.

You know, I saw some good things from Justin last year, but his touch on throwing is something that really needs addressing

He sat behind RUSS and should have seen the difference in his passes and Russ’. it’s his job to work on his touch in the off-season. I really wonder who his quarterback coach is and what he is doing right this second as we speak.

He needs a great quarterback coach and he should be doing this right now in the off-season if he’s not, it’s totally on the player

Maybe we sign Fields, and hire Wilson as his coach? Then pick up the best QB in the draft that we can get.

I'm grabbing at straws.

I liked the professionalism and maturity Justin showed. Didn’t cause any disruptions and sat and observed.
I also liked what we saw from him in his brief audition and I really think with a good QB Coach could turn out to be what we want.
I’ve been on record as saying sign Justin and hire Bobby Slowik as the QB Coach Passing Coordinator who helped young CJ Stroud develop.
I think Justin and Bobby would work well with Arthur Smith’s offense. As long as they can keep Tomlin’s interference at a minimum.
I would probably try and sign Mason as a backup but that might be a tough sell in light of how he left here. If not, Kyle Allen would be fine with me.
If this thing blows up then you draft your QB next draft in 2026 but I really think Justin would do fine.
I will add, please get this young man some legit weapons and I don’t mean the likes of Van Jefferson, Scotty Miller or Ben Skoronek.
Give him a real chance to succeed.

no doubt Fields is supremely gifted with athletic ability. His problem is that he reads coverage FAR too slowly to be a consistently effective qb for a full season, and frankly, qb whisperer coach or not, I think that's just who he is at this point. Also, when he was a Bear, stats showed that he would actually get much worse as a game would go on, with his worst stats coming up in the 4th quarter of games. I'm sure a lot of that had to do with the fact that the bears were usually losing those games and he would be trying to do too much to be a hero and pull off comebacks, but still, some of those stats were alarmingly bad, relative to stats he'd be post in the 1st half of games.

Just keep it to straws and no one will care.

The benefit of the “Russ” being Justin’s personal QB coach is, he could suit up mid-season if need be…..

Ala “ACE” in the whole………….

Kordell Stewart had troubles reading the field as well. His OC at the time designed plays that Kordell ONLY had to read a 1/3 of the field, left 1/3, middle 1/3, right 1/3. It worked out well for a couple years. Maybe our Offense should look at something of this nature.

Add in the run game and it did keep Defenses guessing. That’s the # 1 problem with our current Offense is there is no guessing by the defense,. They have pretty much an above 60% guess success, but I would say more like 65+% success rate.

I predict he will improve on those numbers in 2025…
As he escapes the shackles of the Tomlin offense

Does Old Man Russ or Old Man Cousins make ya optimistic? Think it will be one of those 2

Yeah. I keep seeing people saying this. Show me that he has an inability to read defenses....Russ didn't look any better in our offense. Russ had a bigger playbook afforded him. Russ was Vet SB
champion....didn't look any better than Fields reading defenses. One could argue Fields looked better.

Now you could be correct. He sucks. Just show me that he sucks....instead of just saying he sucks. I saw him in games going thru his progression as fast as Russ did. Or at least that is my opinion.

There was a video posted on SN somewhere this last season, showing all the open guys he didn't see when he scrambled or got sacked. I will keep trying to find it.

He also, IMO, doesn't excel in the "Throw it to the place that only the receiver can catch it" location, or "throw a guy open" often. I really believe that he can be taught this, but he is in the worst place to be in that situation.

Get him a good full time QB coach.

Won't happen... so in lieu of that... I PAY Ben to sit with JF 4 hrs every day of training camp and go over every piece of film where the kid threw a pass, even his Bears days if I can get it, ESPECIALLY any where he threw a pick.

I think it was like a three point differential between Russ and Fields per game. Wilson had about a 3 points per game higher average but with Wilson’s collapse at the end Wilson’s winning percentage dipped to 54 percentage compared to 66 for Justin.

That was comparing a 6/5 win loss vs a 4/2.

Some of that might be TOP factoring in which I didn’t have access to in comparison.

Obviously Justin played in less games but Wilson’s season was the dramatically better in the beginning vs down the stretch..

I was going to say Ben. Just not sure how good of a teacher he is. I remember him saying it was not his job to help Dobbs and Rudolph.
But I guess he was right.

Come on...Scrambling? How about in the pocket with protection? Also just one video?

As for throwing the WR open....yep.....that was taken out of the playbook for him. As was the middle of the field.

Fair enough. I am not pretending to be much more than a fan of the game who knows a thing or two. I just hold him in the opinions I expressed here - insane athlete, great guy, unpolished QB, weak with defenses, lacking that pinpoint passing skill.

Take it or leave it.
