The newest Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett had his first press conference on the South Side as an NFL player on Friday afternoon. The quarterback made his way back into Pittsburgh this morning after spending draft night in his native state of New Jersey.
The moment Pickett was selected was captured by television cameras and you could see the tears of joy from Pickett. With his family surrounding him he was able to finally fulfil that dream he had when he was a little boy. Pickett said that when he’d walk into the facility as a Pitt Panther that he’d often look to the left side of the building as he walked in. Now he will be a part of that side.
Pickett was asked if he had much of a relationship with Ben Roethlisberger, and if the former Steelers quarterback had reached out to him yet. But Pickett said he didn’t think he had heard anything from Roethlisberger, but he hadn’t gone through the several hundred text messages yet.
Last night Pickett spoke about bringing a Super Bowl title back to Pittsburgh. He’s already going to be a fan favorite amongst a lot of the people of Pittsburgh, but bringing home a Lombardi might win over the rest of Steeler Nation.

This was always the dream. So, like you said, I’ve envisioned it since I was five, seven years old. So, it was incredibly special. Obviously, I was overcome with emotion last night, having my family there, my dad. And that’s really why I wanted to be back in New Jersey. My grandparents were there. Everyone that played a part in helping me get here was there. It was an awesome moment.

Yeah, I mean, it’s special. It’s really special. I have a lot of friendships. I know a lot of people here, obviously, like you said, from playing a pit and being here for five years. So, the fact that I’m starting my pro career here is really special and I’m looking forward to building new relationships with everybody in the city.
