The Steelers signed Kenzel Doe likely as a return man option.

In college he had two TD returns, and averages 23.9 yards per kickoff, and 9.8 yards per punt. He's a luxury player outside of special teams. It could come down to Archer or him.

I thought Wheaton was excellent on kickoffs, but having Brown return punts is risky as he has too much value.
 
Camp body. If he can make the PS he is lucky. Brown, Wheaton, Archer, Boykin... too many options that will make the roster to spend a 53 man spot on a return guy alone.
 
They need a guy to fill in with the injury to Eli Rogers. Probably has zero chance unless he lights it up as a returner.

I never understood the argument against Brown returning punts as being too "risky". Is there some kind of statistic I don't know about that says punt returners are injured more frequently than any other position? For Brown it's the contrary, I think he's dealt out more injuries returning punts than he has picked up himself (karate kick anyone?). Half the time he's fair catching anyway so why not have the guy with the best hands back there as well as the teams best playmaker? As we've seen in the past, a punt return TD or a good punt return that sets up a TD can be a game changer.
 
I think that I was the one to suggest that coach receive a limit for creating new threads.

I said it before and I say it again. I never take Brown off of PR duty if they are kicking to pin us inside the 20. I want the surest hands on the ******* field to handle those kicks, because a TO is a TD. If they are kicking backed up to their EZ, AB is also your guy. The punt team will be in protect kicking the ball out to mid field, and AB will have all the time in the world to set up his return. The tweener range is where a PR can get hit HARD. The other 2 options I mentioned is little to no contact on the returner while catching the punt.

A million times this. I'm sure there's a bunch of data out there about where the most frequent concussions occur on Punt Returns and I would hope that Brown is in none of those types of situations(which i assume is primarily punts returned from about the 20-40ish range of the field.
 
Does Doe have that look of a deer in the headlights? I mean Doe in the headlights. Come on Coach, you bother us with this. He's camp fodder thats all. We already have enough of those guys.
 
I feel the Dri Archer bandwagon getting a little light.

Why? I'm talking Steeler football. If you don't like the thread, just skip them. :thumb: I pass on many threads. Tomlin said he wants to look at a new return man.
 
Agreed....more than likely a camp filler....

Also agree...this move certainly doesn't endorse Archer as that guy..
 
A simple thing. A personnel move was made and it is open to discussion. On occasion a gem is found from another teams cuts or in the ranks of the undrafted. It is nice to be kept abreast of the moves when they happen and what the player looks like in camp. Harrison was brought in when cut by the gavens. He turned out to be a worth while player even though he was cut from this team as well. Posts about the team should always be welcome, I would rather hear this than news about marsha** and the cheats**.

I was at practice yesterday with VIP field passes, it was pretty sweet experience with a Q&A with Tunch, Wolf and Rocky and then Gay and DeCastro coming down for autographs after practice, but I got a good laugh watching Doe. His shoulder pads looked too big for his body, which looked to be smaller than Archer. Made some plays in the passing game, though. Not bad for a guy who's barely had any time in camp.
