ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports free agent ILB Lawrence Timmons will visit the Dolphins on Thursday.

The Dolphins are intent on upgrading their linebacker corps, but Timmons wouldn't necessarily be an impact addition despite his many productive seasons in Pittsburgh. Going on 31, Timmons has looked a step slower in recent years, and is best utilized as a rotational player at this point in his career

Just have him drop in coverage

we will see after a few series of that if yinz still interested......

I for one am very happy to have had Timmons on the STEELERS team. He is still a quality player and I hope it's more sarcasm if disrespecting him. TRUE he has lost a step but when he is resigned, his pay check will reflect that. If they draft a STUD impact than Lawrence will be VERY good depth. The front office said they wanted him to test the market so that is what he is doing. If someone over pays him in the eyes of the STEELERS, then he won't be back. I feel the FO already knows the dollar $$$$ amount they are willing to pay and may find out they can save some money if other teams prove the market isn't there. I for one will; be happy with Lawrence and his weaknesses per price. We definately could do worse and remember NOT every player can be a PRO Bowler.

I think Timmons is just testing the market.

Can't speak for others but mine was just sarcasm sprinkled in with a little truth.

I want him back and he had a decent tenure, solid.

I just prefer coaches to leave him out of coverage.

Because Timmons is the guy you want out there when the Dolphins play Tom Brady twice a year going 5 wide. I really appreciate Timmons and what he has given the Steelers but let's all board the reality train.

Look, my comment is directed more at Timmons making the statement he wants to retire as a Steeler.
I'm sure the team made him a fair offer to do just that. Hell he's made millions here and now he's at the twilight of his career and he wants to test the market. Come on man be serious. He's 31 years old and has lost a step or two. It's not like the Steelers are offering minimum wage here. He would still get something in the range of 3 years 15 million. But no he wants to test the market. So much for loyalty. These guys are pretty much all the same. The problem I have with Larry is don't say one thing and now backtrack and something different.
Of course he'll sign with the Dolphins who thru his agent already know the Steelers' offer and will now increase it and Larry signs with them.

The Steelers didn't make him an offer, they want him to test the FA waters to set his market value. Your loyalty rant is ******* stupid...

And you are misinformed. They've been negotiating with his agent which means they are talking dollars. That is what negotiating a new. Interact is all about.
Obviously Larry and his agent didn't like the numbers so the team told them to test the market. Meaning this is what we're willing to pay for your services but if you can get more, then go for it.

Again, he said he wanted to retire as a Steeler and they tried to accommodate him. If you don't think they talked contract dollars you're not being realistic. That's what negotiations are. Timmons apparently didn't like the Steelers numbers enough to sign.

And before you accuse someone of being stupid because they don't agree with you look in the mirror

Maybe before you accuse someone of something, you should make sure that you are accusing them of something they actually did. I said your loyalty rant was stupid, I didn't say you were stupid. Not all negotiations lead to talking solid final numbers for a contract. Sometimes they are short and sweet. Sometimes the team says "we are willing to pay market value, but we don't know what market value is"

It was announced WAY early that the Steelers would let Timmons test the market, WAY before there were RUMORS that they were in negotiations with Timmons. So what we DO have is Colbert saying they would let Timmons test the market, and then we have a beat writer claiming that the Steelers were negotiating with Timmons. I'll stick with my original statement, there was no offer made.

Any other school yard insults you want to try out?

Whatever! I don't have time for this.

I have always like Mr. Timmons - it would be sad to see him leave. The ILB position, IMO, is very weak in this draft class and Reddick is the only one I'd be comfortable w/ as his replacement (he's been compared to Shazier) - so, I don't know what will happen, but, I'm certain we have a plan...

there are some valuable pieces at ILB in this draft but the FO might also invest in a LB/S hybrid and play him more in passing plays while Vince Williams plays the thumper in running situations

Can always trade for Michael Kendrick from the Eagles

Timmons has been a tackling machine for us. Its probably best that we let him go and not bring him back because it will be harder to phase him out with him still on the roster. I'd like it if Timmons could go one more year for us but I know he's going to regress in pass coverage and don't want to see him like Farrior was at the end getting burnt by RBs.

I think he is from Florida, so closer to home might be good for him.

What about Kendricks? He was a pro bowler 2 years ago and played amazing in the 3-4 defense.
