it's because they are not a very good team themselves!! It cracks me up when people keep harping on it, as if the Steelers are in reality a top of the line NFL team that should never lose to the Bucs, Jets, Raiders, Jags, etc. Our defense is abysmal, I mean epic abysmal. The offense has playmakers but is far too inconsistent and if Ben wizzes his pants like this past Sunday they have no shot to be competitive. I cringe at the thought of what Brady or Manning would do to our secondary in the playoffs. Time to stop with all the whining about losing to bad teams.....this years team is average at best.

Oh, I don't think anyone in their right minds thinks this team is a Super Bowl team. Not with this defense. I do think however, that even with the defensive deficiencies, this team has the talent to score with anyone and should score at will on the lesser teams. That hasn't happened.

Don't forget the piss poor coaching - coming off a bye, another loss to a losing team - motivation my ***.

I would hire Rex Ryan or Jim Harbaugh in a heartbeat

9 wins IS overachieving for this team.

I wouldn't want either. Not for long term anyway. Three, four years, max.

How about Harbaugh and two #1s straight up for Ben? Let the rebuilding begin!

Just kidding...I think.

Could not agree more fogdoctor....can you imagine if this team lost Brown, Bell, or Ben to injury??? Would not win a game. Hope we never have to find that out.

It's the 3rd season in a row of ****** football. I am always amazed at the stupid national announcers that are "shocked" when the Steelers get their ***** handed to them by **** teams. Their last playoff game was an *** kicking by Tebow, that's all you need to know about this team and it's been the same crap every year.

To me, it's all about missed drafts. To take a guy like Dri Archer and fail to address one of the worst secondaries in football is inexcusable. Oh, and don't get me started on Mauro going to Arizona....how does that happen????

The only super bowl caliber teams that I see in the NFL at this point in time are the following:

Seahawks, Packers,Pats, Broncos and a dark horse and may I say very much dark horse Lions . The Cardinals would have been my clear cut favorite but with Drew Stanton at QB, forget about it.

The rest of the NFL is mired in mediocrity as inconsistency is rampant among these teams.

Harbaugh and Rexy will be FA coaches - we don't have to give up anybody for them

I think they'd gut and cut 80% of the defense - all Tomlin favorites - that would be a good start

This is the sum of it all combined with terrible drafting overall.

Thanks for the break down and effort.

Technically it wasn't an "*** kicking". They lost in overtime. Admittedly on the first play of overtime on a deep throw that caught the team in something close to a goal-line defensive alignment with the Broncos on about the 20 yard line as I recall just BEGGING Tebow to float up a prayer.

(Which of course is about the only thing Tebow did all game...)

Still, it wasn't an ***-kicking.

Look what happened to the *Patriots when Brady "wizzed in his pants" earlier this year. Same with Manning.
Can't blame a QB that is running for his life almost every passing play, hardly gets to sit down because the defense "wizzes (and poops) in their pants" and allows 80 yard 3 minute drives and has a kicking team that can't get the ball over the goal line when every other kicker in the league can kick into the stands and a return game who's best effort is a fair catch. Too much blame to go around...and it starts at the top.

It was until the 4th quarter

I disagree. I'd say they are an average team on the fringe of the best four in the conference. However, like the rest of the average teams they win when they win the turnover battle and lose when they don't. the problem is that for whatever reason they seem to not even try to create pressure especially against weaker teams. In my opinion they are afraid to expose their secondary, but by not bringing pressure consistenly that is exactly what they are doing. no pressure equals no turnovers.

Look at the teams that are playing spectacular right now............Green Bay, NE, Denver............what do they all have in common.......... ? Great QB play....Great QB play masks a looooooootta other weaknesses on those teams.

Their last two 1st rounders don't seem to be panning out, Archer of course was a wasted 3rd round, and again there is no one left on the team from the '08 and '09 drafts.

I'm not going to piss on the Shazier pick. both injuries were contact roll ups. It isn't the phantom calf or hamstring deal. And this team is much better with him in the lineup. No question. He provides the underneath coverage the other two cannot. However, there have been way to many misses and a lack of good journeyman backups/second tier starters from the later rounds.

I'm with you on QB play but the reality is that Ben is having a damn good year statistically and this team still is average at best. The reason? We have no playmakers on defense....not one. Those teams you listed above have multiple big time players on their defenses and that is why they are better than the Steelers. I honestly think that the only reason the Steelers D is not in the bottom 5 is because of how piss poor the schedule has been.

That, plus the offense puts up yards and stats but points...no so much. They're scoring more than they used to but so is everyone else.

Technically, it was. Not on the scoreboard, but on the field. They gave up 316 yards and 2 TDs on 10 freaking completions and were down 20-6 to an 8-8 team lead by a guy that's been out of football for 2 years because nobody else thinks he can throw the freaking ball. That, IMO, is an embarrassing *** kicking of epic proportions. The D should have gone through some serious soul searching and question asking after that game by the upper brass. And what happened? Nothing at all, it's been business as usual and the result has been nothing but average football with more embarrassing losses added on.
