With so much conversation about Rudolph I was digging around for some of the college scouting reports and found a PFF YouTube video with some interesting stats:

Plotting his throws - where he excels and where he doesn't:

Passing under pressure vs the NCAA average:

His improvement over his college career:

Their view on his strengths and weaknesses:

Fascinating to see the level of detail that they go into. Also they highlight that his most inaccurate area in college was the short stuff (0-9 yards) which oddly enough is exactly what he's been doing most of with the Steelers.

Obviously this is just their opinion but at least it's backed up by stats from his career.

I like Rudolph and all... and unbiased stats are nice, but PFF is notoriously bad at creating unbiased stats...
there are two current ways to rate qbs... the first is passer rating, which is unbiased but doesn’t factor in running or sacks or a lot of other things so it isn’t perfect, the second is the various types of QBR out there that factor a lot of things in, but add subjectivity because a lot of things you cannot judge without knowing the actual play design and systems...

College stats rarely translate to the nfl... Mason is doing well for his first year... they key is what happens when teams start sitting on the short stuff and what happens when he starts having to make four reads downfield

The stats are just that - they were highlighting that he's an unfinished prospect that did some things well and others not so well. I just hadn't seen them before.

Also, I was re-watching the highlights from the Rams game and saw lots to like about what he showed in that game. A couple of decent downfield throws that didn't look short of arm strength; a nice transition through to his 2nd/3rd read; quite a bit of standing in there and making something happen despite being under pressure. Lots of good traits.

And I really don't understand people calling out Rudolph for the safety. They called play action, no one bought it and Zach Banner might as well not have been there for the attempt that he made at a block. Rudolph just turned into two Rams as he came out of the play action.

Now I know there's stuff there that wasn't so good - in the end of it we didn't score many points - but I am overall more optimistic about where he is at the moment than not.

That safety absolutely wasn't on Rudolph. That was an absolute **** playcall.

Rudolph had been under pressure all game, to put in a slow developing play in their own end-zone. I was just flabbergasted. That's right flabber-*******-gasted.

Yeah that was absurd.. was play action with a seven step drop supposed to fool anyone? Our oline has been a lot of hot garbage this year... that new oline coach is on my list of guys im not sure are nfl ready... to

I'm mostly very happy with his play keeping everything in mind. His hanging onto the ball so late without sliding or moving is basically a time bomb for a scoop and score fumble.

Mason talked about this a few weeks ago when there were a lot of comments on his short passes. He was criticized in college for throwing deep too often. Funny how that works out.
