The Miami Herald reports Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey will be charged with misdemeanor battery following a July 12 brawl at a South Beach nightclub.
The charge could be handed down as soon as Friday. Maurkice and twin brother Mike held their birthday party at Cameo Nightclub in Miami on July 12, and three people were left injured. One of them contends Maurkice punched him in the face, and is coming after the Steelers' All-Pro. Mike isn't facing any charges.

At least he didn't drag the guy unconscious from an elevator.

Should read:

"Accuser's attorney says Maurkice Pouncey will be charged"

Not good, but Misdemeanor battery is about as low on the rung that it gets in a fight situation. Isn't it?

Police have not confirmed as of yet.

**** like this has been happening with athletes since the universe gave us athletes. Im sure players during the 70's Steel Curtain era had their share of bar melee's.

Drunk Fan recognizes high profile athlete in a club, approaches athlete.....asks for his time, autographs or pic request...athlete doesnt comply...fan gets a lil torqued, calls out player publicly, player reacts not so kindly...fans sees $$$$$ op and offers his face for pummel therapy.

"You saw he punched me, right ?...right ??!!! You seen that, huh ? You witnessed.........? Cool, gimme your info, i might need you in court after i call an attorney.."

Maurkice fighting in a club is the least of my fan "worries"

I wish I could brush this off as easily as some of you guys. I'm troubled by this, in conjunction with the other "stuff" that's been going on with him. I hate that we gave him that big extension, when his play the past couple of seasons (granted last season was a wash out) hasn't been phenominal. Hopefully this is the end of this crap and he turns it back around.

I like your scenario and the part of face pummel therapy :)

I'm troubled by this also. He needs some attitude adjustment!!! Of coarse we don't know what goes on the locker room and I'm hoping when this latest incident happened, Ben took him aside and related his story. Grow up already,
act like a real person and not some hoodlum. Respect yourself, you know? We will see if the extension was worth it as time passes. I'm hoping we did good, now lets see MP prove us right.

Salute the nation

If he breaks the law he should be charged.

Its not the 70's..In the 70's when I worked in a bar/nightclub I used to bring 6 packs out to the state police so they could have their road soda's..In the 70's u get pulled over for DUI 99% of the cops would call their buddy and drive your car home..or park your car and drive you home. Its a different time and these guys need to understand that..behave for 10-15 years collect your huge *** pay day..then if you wanna be stupid.. knock yourself out.

I remember hearing the story of Lambert getting in a scrap with local guy. Local guy got the best of Jack so Lambert tried to get him a tryout, lol...good times.

So, I guess Adlof will ban Pouncey from the NFL for life for this.

Well it sounds like he wont be charged with a felony, but he still may face some misdemeanor charges. I have trouble just blowing this off as well, but hopefully he will learn at some point.

We should have kept Doug Legursky

Mike Adams should hang with Maurkice when goes to the South Side.

so this is all based on some Miami reporter's point of view of what COULD happen?

These pro athletes are and have been given passes their whole life. A large number of them are thugs, and always have been, and will continue to be one. This should come as no suprise to anyone. These guys have never been made to live by the rules, yet now everyone expects them to change. If he broke the law, I hope he gets what is coming to him. Whether it is jail time, civil lawsuit, suspension, I could care less. If it turns out the charges are bogus, than things should go the exact same way for the accuser.

Now if He gets suspended over this, then maybe the fans can let their displeasure be known to the Steeler organazation. Without fans the teams value tanks, owners lose a shitload of money. The problem is, MOST people couldn't give two ***** one way or the other. Those that do will most likely not take thie time to complain.

Hitch your wagon to a thug, you takes your chances.

If person A gets in a scrum in a night club with person b and a punch is thrown, and the guy isn't severely injured what are the chances charges are laid. None. But throw in that B is a professional athlete and it is increased dramatically. I listened to the Seahawks Oline coach talk about their team culture at a coaches conference. Their team rule is that no team member goes out alone without a teammate during the season. It is your duty to make sure your teammate does nothing to embarrass the team. You are as accountable as he is. Listening to their team culture was very interesting. I'm sure the Steelers have similar things in place, and this is just magnified because they happened to win last season. Another interesting thing they have unrelated to conduct is a show what you know playbook session. They display a play on the screen and players are put on the spot to explain everyone's job on the play or the defense. Some guys know what to do, but have a hard time articulating, but they must get good at it if they want to be on the team. Its a big deal for them.

What makes you believe that a large number of athlete's are thugs?

How about this put Mike and Markice in the court room with dim lights and have the ********** pick out which one hit him.
