Max speaks out.

“If you take one less pick away from that game, we’re talking about seven-time Super Bowl Champions instead of just six-time.”

Can't argue with that.

An article like this and you start to get the impression that Ben wasn't liked by some of his teammates.

Anyone remember the reaction of our O line when Ben got punched in the face by Suh? They seemed unemotional and indifferent. I was shocked. I expected more,

Yet when Rudolf was being smacked around by a helmet wielding Myles Garrett, Pouncey and company came to Rudolph's defense with a vengeance!

Meh The gameplan was to come out passing and attack their strength… looking at the play by play it looks like about a zillion other Tomlin era gameplans where we’d try to run against a top rated run D or pass against a top pass D…

The game was lost when Chris Keomatu whiffed on a block and cause the pick six. People blamed spindenhall or Ben, but that was the single biggest play in the game..

The reality was the Oline sucked that year… just slightly less than it had sucked the previous couple of seasons… Center wasn’t a turnstile at least…
The rushing game was 11th in the league in total yards but very mediocre in yards per carry, showing more quantity of rushing than quality… the line also was extremely poor in pass protection metrics… and not just because ben held tge ball… iirc they graded out bottom 3 in the league in pass protection

But arians and Tomlin were infatuated with splash plays.. and probably were trying to force a mvp to Ben as a FU to the league…

Terrible gameplan… Max is probably right

I view Ben's career as a tale of two Bens.
Young Ben forgot his roots and became arrogant and a little self-centered (OK, more than a little). He partied like a rock star, chased women and did all the **** you shouldn't be surprised a small town guy who suddenly finds fame and fortune would do.
As he got older, he settled into who and what he was. He wasn't fazed by the fame. Stopped partying in public, found a good wife, had kids and enjoyed the fruits of his success in a quiet respectful manner.
I can see why young Ben was who he was and admire his growth as a player and a person.

I thought the packers were missing most of their secondary and people thought we should attack the corners. Am i getting confused with a different game?

I'm a little shocked with Max. I thought he was definitely a Ben guy.
I think he was probably calling out the coaches more than Ben… you have to remember the PM team on the fan are notorious Ben haters who tend to contextualize stuff pretty bad… tgey want to be edgy but they just come off as annoying lol

Ignoring your OL or having either line being the weakest link on your team will more often than not cost you a championship. We've seen it in the superbowl numerous times. KC got handled just a few years back because the OL was just terrible against a great DL.

Your best long term investment outside of a franchise qb is in the lines.

Max sounds like a bitter old man. Quit your whining and trying to make a name for yourself. It ain't working.

Now we can all go back in time and … oh, guess not. I always appreciate the insights from players but this doesn’t make me like Max or Ben less (or more). It is what it is.

That behavior can be attributed to many players though.

The question here is his behavior as a teammate.

I remember when Ben was upset, his ego being severely damaged when the Steelers drafted Rudolph. Stating he had no interest in mentoring him.
That is not being a good teammate imo.

Ben took his linemen on a vacation each year and bought them gifts each year. He also didn't throw them under the bus when they blocked like dogshit during the 2008 SB season.

Max won a SB on each side of the line. He'll live with his 2 rings.
And his cushy job on Serius NFL Radio..

Mentoring a guy they drafted to be your replacement isn't a part of your job description. It was great to watch Hines Ward lead the young receivers, but I wouldn't go as far to say he is a bad teammate because of it. I wouldn't exactly call it uncommon among QBs to not want to help out young guys ready to take their jobs.

problem with Max's statement is that if you remove that fumble, then maybe we have 7 rings instead of 6.

Also, 'tard's fumble came at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Packers scored on that possession and were up 11.

Via Ben throwing, we got back into the game, cutting the lead to 3. Packers got another FG and we had 2 minutes to score.

I suppose we were to run the wheels on 'Tard with 2 minutes to go considering he didnt (and no other RB) get a carry after that fumble?

Every time I think about it, I cannot remove the image of 85 just whiffing or "OLE-ing" on the block, with the LB just hammering the surprised Spinthenfall.

Obviously no pick 6 would have made things different, but so would've a meager chip on that whiff. 10 point swing at least?
