Mitch is odds on favorite to be the starter Week 1 - but how long does he last?

While both Trubisky and Pickett will be learning a new offense, I agree that Trubisky is most likely the starter week 1 baring an injury. Pickett would have to be leaps and bounds better to win the starting job and I just don't see that happening.

So if he does start week 1, what does it take for Pickett to replace him? 0-1? 0-2? 0-5? a winning record but average play by Trubisky?

how long is your leash if/when Mitch wins the spot?

I think Mitch keeps the job as long as he isn't all out terrible. Personally I think Mitch starts until A) he starts to throw a **** ton of interceptions. B) we are mathematically out of the playoffs or C) Tomlins non losing season is in serious jeopardy.

For me it is this, if he stays healthy and keeps the team above .500 this season he sticks. If that changes then insert option two.

I don't know if you can change QB's based on just the record. It would have to be determined if Mich is truly to blame for losing games, and not the fault of his teammates...dropped balls, O-line, defensive breakdowns, special teams blunders...

The Steelers went from an open 3-way QB competition to a "landslide favorite" in just over a month? Damn.

How about we wait and see how training camp goes, and how they look in the preseason before we crown anybody?

p.s. btw, -172 is not a landslide favorite where I come from

Tomlin says nobody wins a job when it's just football in shorts. How does he like his crow served?

Landslides don't last but rather they end quickly.

Mitch will reign for the season unless injury or just plain crappy bad. There is one more senario though,....... sacrificial lamb. If O'h Canada is absolutely sucking eggs, Coach Tomlin may switch QBs to try and save face.

that is why I edited my thread title to "odds on" favorite

uh, no one has won the job yet the article is about betting odds

Would be amazing if some would just read the dang article...................................................... I'm guilty at times of not reading but I do mostly read them all.

I think we're back in the Maddox, Tomczak, Graham qb mode and Pickett will be the next best thing to sliced bread as all Steeler backup QBs are for their first few years.

Unless he totally screws the pooch or gets hurt, it's Trubisky's job for the next 2 years. Just my .02 which is now worth .01.

Pickett and Trubinsky pre-season play will be very similar..
Pickett gets the nod to start a new era of Steeler AFC North dominance, and opens the season as number 1.

I know they said Pickett should be the most pro ready rookie QB. But I think unless he clearly wins it out right he starts on the bench. I think Mitch is capable of being an above average starter. So that might be a tall task out of the gates to play above that level.

I think Mitch would have to be INT prone to change my way of thinking....

I actually hope Mitch plays well enough to get the nod in Game one...this would tell me we have 2 NFL capable QB's...

But Mitch's play will have to be "heads & tails" above Kenny's to get the call...

Arthur Moates said what he saw in OTA's was that Mitch was thoroughly in command of his accuracy & was spot on...KP & Rudy were a tad bit wobbly...

Mitch is bringing it
Let us see how it progresses when the pads are on against competition. But good to hear Mitch doing well.

Barring injury messing up the depth chart, I think Trubisky starts the season, Pickett is the starter by Week 10, and Rudolph gets traded before training camp is over.

I'm no expert but I think many are writing of an overall 2nd player pick 1st round just a little to soon. I think he will up his game considerably and hopefully show why he was #2 overall in '17. Time will tell.

Did the rest of the NFL miss by that far that Pickett is day one starter ability? Time will tell.

I just hope our evaluation staff has the BEST player start and play not based on current draft pick or money.

Just think ---if Haskins was still with us...we would have 3 1st round pick on our roster.

With that said--I believe at least one of the men competing will step up and do the job this season and beyond..

I actually think he sits all year. Barring injury of course...or if Mitch starts throwing too many interceptions...
