A massive manhunt is underway in Munich after a suspected terror attack on a city shopping mall where "multiple" people are feared dead.

There were no official reports of injuries at the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum shopping mall but German public broadcaster BR reports 6 people have been killed. Germany's dpa news agency reported that police are saying "we expect multiple dead."


Munich police, who suspect terrorism, said there appears to be at least one suspect, but authorities would not confirm if any suspects are in custody or on the loose. Dpa reported that no one has been captured yet. Witnesses have reported seeing three men with guns.

The report said the attack started at a fast food restaurant in the mall, shortly before 6 p.m., according to Munich police spokesman Thomas Baumann. He was quoted as saying that police didn't know whether they were dealing with one or more shooters.


The mall is located in the northern part of Munich is not far from the city's Olympic Stadium in the Moosach district of the Bavarian capital.

"Many shots were fired, I can't say how many but it's been alot," an employee at the mall told NTV, according to Reuters. "All the people from outside came streaming into the storeand I only saw one person on the ground who was so severelyinjured that he definitely didn't survive."

City police alerted the public that there is a large police operation, and asked that people avoid the area around the shopping center.

It's the second attack in Germany in less than a week. On Monday, a 17-year-old Afghan wounded four people in an ax-and-knife attack on a regional train near the Bavarian city of Wuerzburg, and another woman outside as he fled. All survived, although one man from the train remains in life-threatening condition. The attacker was shot and killed by police.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the train attack, but authorities have said the teen likely acted alone.

The Munich Transportation Authorities said it halted service on multiple train, tram and bus lines after the shooting, Reuters reported.

Munich shooting: Police say nine dead as manhunt continues

German police are engaged in a huge anti-terror manhunt in the city of Munich after nine people died in a shopping mall shooting.

Police are investigating whether one of the bodies is that of a perpetrator.

The attackers were earlier reported still on the run. Witnesses said they had seen three with guns. Police urged people to avoid public places.

The attack was at the Olympia mall in the north-western Moosach district. Public transport has been suspended.

Police are now describing it as "an acute terror situation". They say the first reports of a shooting in Hanauer Street came in just before 18:00 (16:00 GMT).

The Bavarian capital's central railway station has been evacuated.

People stranded by the emergency and unable to get home are being offered shelter by locals.

"U.S. citizens are advised to shelter in place pending police announcements that the situation is under control. It looks like Fox may have got its wires crossed here. Apparently the murderer got into an argument with a guy on a balcony and was yelling "I am German" and "I was born in Germany" in response to being called "a f*****g foreigner" (which was in response to the gunman calling guy on balcony "a f****g Turk"). The Daily Mail has a supposed transcript at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...n-way-shots-fired-shopping-centre-Munich.html. The first couple of exchanges:

Gunman: 'Because of you I was bullied for 7 years...'

The gunman and balcony man begin shouting at each other.

Agree we'll have to wait and see. Given the argument he had with the guy on the balcony it's looking like it may have been nothing to do with terrorism (Islamic or Neo Nazi), but more to do with mental illness. Athough it is now confirmed he is Iranian background, therefore could be Islamic terrorism, not all violence committed by Muslims/Middle Easterners is Islamic Terrorism, just as not all violence committed by Caucasians is Neo-nazi extemism. It's also being reported there may have been another shooting incident about the same time nearby.
