LB GERMAINE PRATT, CINCINNATI BENGALS

With both Bengals starting safeties in Jessie Bates III and Vonn Bell pending free agents, a big extension for wide receiver Tee Higgins likely in play and fellow off-ball linebacker Logan Wilson also eligible for an extension after the season, it’s possible Pratt hits the market even after a career year.

Pratt’s 90.1 coverage grade was the best mark in the NFL. He missed just two tackles in coverage and allowed only four explosive receptions. Pratt didn’t miss many tackles as a run defender, either, whiffing on just 5.9% of opportunities after three straight seasons above 10% to start his career. Last but certainly not least, Pratt also peaked at the right time, with his 90.1 overall grade since Week 8 the top mark among linebackers.

My two and a half cents: Coverage strength and run D upgrade. This would be my target early besides Sutton on D. Effectively replacing Bush. It would also steal from the Bungles which is the Steelers main divisional threat.

how would you compare him to Bills Edmunds? and what would you think we would have to pay both?

Assuming that the Ratbirds didn’t reset the ilb market, the salary tracking websites are estimating pratt around 10 mil per and Edmunds at a hair over 12 million per… steep for our capspace and roster needs. Id just bring in a second round rookie and hope that Robinson was the real deal… you just can’t have a market value star at every position

It would be tough especially if Sutton gets paid well. But the time to do anything to build this team back up would be when KP is on his rookie deal

Q. Is this a pipe dream? Ink Sutton, Larry O. and one of the two starting capable safeties from last year without major cap remortgage implications? Then I use top 52 picks on oline, Corner and ILB to contribute immediately.

would love to get those 2 back plus Edmunds or Kazee. would love to get a starter ready ILB via free agency. then truly go BPA in draft. as long as BPA is trench folk

I put Edmunds below Pratt. If I had to pick a pecking order. A poster gave you their perceived values. I know Omar loves to backload and tweak contracts so I would presume the first year would be friendly.

Steelers have two players that can free up a decent amount of money so I think they could get Sutton, and ILber, and Edmunds isn't a high dollar re-sign.

I think this is very doable. It just a matter of who they think fits their scheme. As there is a decent amount of ILBer free agent options on a team that needs an upgrade.

when in doubt if they fit scheme? get a sibling

Sure if they think he fits their scheme. He is also an option. I just don't want a brother if that brother isn't an upgrade capable. But that might not be a hard accomplish with Bush being the standard compare.

You need to be very careful pushing money out this season… we aren’t one or two players from being a Super Bowl favorite… you don’t do “all in” moves with old guys like heyward. The offense is still really young… you don’t need to overhandicap the future cap this year… especially since offensive players bank more than defensive guys typically do

I was kinda joking about the sibling thing. But Edmunds would be a big upgrade over bush. I wouldnt mind getting Spillane back cheap, and signing both Kazee and Terrell.

If they sign someone like Edmunds, chances are Jack gets cut. He's getting paid a lot and didn't do much this year. Just like WJIII is getting cut unless he takes about a 50% pay cut.

Sounds like they have little intention of WJ3 unless he is very cap friendly. Which I'm not opposed to if his back is completely healed and he is dirt cheap. Otherwise take the 2.75m bath and move on. Backs are probably the trickiest injury.

Sounds like the kind of production the Steelers were expecting when they traded up to the #10 pick in 2019. Pratt went in the third round that same year, 62 slots later.

******* Bushy really threw a monkey wrench into this thing but we have to move on.
I like the possibility of signing Tremaine Edmunds and his brother Terrell as well.
I would re-sign Spillane as well.
Wm. Jackson would be gone. I would try and move Trubisky as well for a draft pick. That’s significant savings right there.

The second and third rounds are the money spots for ILBs.

One way to look at it. You were expecting to pay Minka /Watt type money for D. Bush. You aren't. So you are essentially buying tackles, coverage and splash plays. Who cares what the name on the back is

Yep that sucks. Looking back at that draft everyone thought the two Devons were the cream of the ILB draft class

Yeah White was unbelievable the year they won the SB. Undoubtedly he was the MVP of the playoffs and was the difference but I watched a lot of Bucs games due to my deep hatred of TB12 and the fact that they largely sucked. White was not jumping off the screen at all.

yep. he looks like a different player rom his rookie year. maybe it is bad juJu being named Devon and having a decent rookie year

Looking at this year's stats by no means Devin Bush bad. But in games I watched he just didn't really stand out much.

Of course. But their philosophy shifted in that regards they aren't doing it to every Tom,Dick, and Harry so if you are limiting your approach with it I don't think you come up with the same concerns.

Some one here mock drafted him and would have selected him in round three in the thread who would have you drafted. The same person called BS for the trade up to select Bush and would have taken Sweat in round one and DK Metcalf in round two. Who might that be?
