Need to get stops on 3rd and long

The one thing that killed me throughout the game and honestly this season has been giving up the 1st on 3rd and longs. Not sure if it’s a scheme issue or personal but this needs to be fixed.

I bet half the time its as simple as making a damn tackle...scheme is right...players are in the right spot but just don't tackle..I have seen that far too often

Many times teams have third and 7,8, or even 10+ and they throw it to a guy wide open for the easy pick-up. I know we don't have Haden but when it's 3rd down, you cannot play 10+ yards off the receiver. You must get up on him and disrupt the play the best you can. But, unfortunately, those 3rd downs seem to get picked up easily on a regular basis.

Meh......Seems like most of the time we play a soft zone on 3rd and (whatever)long. WRs run to the sticks and turn around. Our D just backpedals and have to run five yards to the WR just to make the tackle. To me it is scheme. Then you have our players trying to strip the ball from behind that leads to the sloppy tackling issues.

Well, if more teams would throw screen passes 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage with minimal to no blocking set up, like the Steelers do, I suspect that Pittsburgh's ability to get off the field on long 3rd downs would improve.

Funny you say that....It's when I get most nervous. You just KNOW the big play is coming, and yep, it does for BIG yardage.
