NFL teams endorse new conduct policy

Posted 40 minutes ago

In a unanimous vote, NFL teams approved a policy that was strengthened and revised.

NFL teams unanimously endorsed a revised and strengthened Personal Conduct Policy for all NFL employees that was presented today at a league meeting in Dallas.

The policy was developed after an extensive series of meetings and discussions over the past four months with a wide range of experts and others inside and outside of the NFL, including current and former players, the NFL Players Association, domestic violence/sexual assault experts and advocates, law enforcement officials, academic experts, and business leaders (see attached list).

The NFL has had a formal policy and program addressing off-field conduct since 1997 that was enhanced in 2007. The new policy significantly builds on the foundation of the previous programs.

“With considerable assistance from the many people and organizations we consulted, NFL ownership has endorsed an enhanced policy that is significantly more robust, thorough, and formal,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said. “We now have a layered evaluation process to take into account a diversity of expert views. This will better enable us to make appropriate decisions and ensure accountability for everyone involved in the process.”

The new policy lays out a clear series of steps to be taken when there is an incident that requires review. Among the new measures are:

* Additional NFL-funded counseling and services for victims, families, and violators.

* A more extensive list of prohibited conduct.

* Independent investigative procedures.

* Specific criteria for paid leave for an individual formally charged with a crime of violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.

* An expert group of outside advisors to review and evaluate potential violations and consult on other elements of the policy.

* A baseline suspension of six games without pay for violations involving assault, battery, domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse, other forms of family violence, or sexual assault, with consideration given to possible mitigating or aggravating circumstances.

Nothing on cruelty to animals, drunk driving, drug use or trafficking, in the article. A more detailed look at the policy likely needs to be available. It also looks like some attention needs to be spent on the on the field fines and procedures as well. Of particular note the players Union has not endorsed this and they believe that anything done needs to be bargained.

NFLPA lost that argument when they signed off on the CBA. Which is why the Steelers voted against it. NFLPA gave Ol' Rog the sole power to administer abuses that fall under the personal conduct policy. If they were silent on the issue of revisions, then shame on them because it has come back to bite them in the ***.

Point is that with the owners voting on a change to the policy the old policy would be null and void and would open that can of worms again.

Its going to be to the point of where even a mere accusation of DV is going to cost a player their career. The NFL is letting due process be supplanted by public opinion led by RadFem.

The real point is that Roger got himself caught trying to cover up the Rice abuse scandal. Rice flat out knocked his fiance unconscious. There's no room for debate or argument. He deserved to go to jail and most o f us would lose our jobs if that happened. Pretty clear and easy.

Roger tried to cover it up. Now he's dancin' like a fat kid in a hot room to cover his tracks.

Aaron Hernandez is pissed. He could be sitting in jail getting paid under the new policy.

That's horrid. The NFL is power mad.

I read where Bell will get a 2 game suspension next year instead of a fine.

That sucks

Bell Pled down, so his offense that he was convicted for wasn't a drug offense. I'd be surprised if he was suspended at all.
It will happen the rules just changed, would not be surprised for it to be 4 games for something like conduct unbecoming. Now if we can just pick the games and have them be against teams that only have two or fewer wins we will be with out Bell in games we would lose anyway.

Can't wait to see the Rats give Rice his back pay.

Would that be "line em up team, ray is walking the gauntlet......" type pay back? Or were you talking salary? LOL

And correct me if I'm wrong, but it appears Rog still controls everything, judge, jury, etc.

OOOooo[pppppppsssss. About the poster's topic. Not sure how much further any one has read, but this policy has changed up front, but the back end is still the same. "Roger" is the last one to decide. Any disputes go through him. Challanges / arbitraition / fluck stick, all go through him. In the case of the Fluck stick, it goes "IN" him.

Paid with what? Hernandez is not employed by anybody and his assets have been seized. I have no idea how he can afford lawyers.

Your tax dollars at work, if you are unable to afford an attorney one will be appointed for you at no charge.
