New Rooney Rule Each Team MUST Hire

When will the Rooney Rule apply to the people benefitting the most from the NFL? - the owners.
 
Quotas in the NFL that include women? Never thought football would see the day. At least on this level.

Can’t really apply the “X percent of NFL players are black, but only Y percent of NFL coaches are black” inequity argument to women, can they?

66% of the population is white, therefore 66% of NFL players must be white. 12% of the population is black, therefore 12% of NFL players must be black. 13% of the population is Hispanic therefore 13% of NFL players must be Hispanic. How far do we want to go with this?

I dunno but I look at it as an extra body on offense. We know for sure that is needed ...

According to someone on DK's site - it's because most of the head coaches in the league come from the offensive side of the ball. The hire also is mandated to work closely with the head coach to gain experience.

Back in the 80’s there was a UCLA kicker named John Lee who was Asian. There was a story about how a security guard denied him access to the facilities because he didn’t believe Lee when the skinny Asian kid said that he was a member of the football team. Those stories don’t go over so well now.

If you look around the league, most NFL teams have at least one minority assistant coach on the offensive side of the ball anyway. The Steelers have 4.
So, the rule is nothing to celebrate or jump around in faux outrage about.
 
Starting with the 2022 season, all 32 teams will be required to hire a diverse person as an offensive assistant. That diverse hire can be a woman, “or a member of an ethnic or racial minority,” the league said in its policy change.

I'd say Farmer Fran's pretty diverse... not too many unintelligible cajuns in the NFL.

The Steelers don't need to do anything. They already have offensive coaches that satisfy this rule.

If Art II is serious about this, shouldn't he be giving away his share of the team to someone that's, in his opinion, more deserving?

Radio reporting this morning that every NFL team has at least one minority coach on offense already.

I haven't read the "more deserving" part in any of the press releases. Regardless, I just think this accomplishes nothing more than PR for the league. Seriously, you're telling teams they have to do something that they are all in compliance with anyway. smh

I think it's to force teams to hire women actually.
 
Boy the Defensive coaches gotta feel good about their future. A racial minority no problem. A woman? F off. I've devoted a big part of my life in the last decade to coaching football and I wouldn't even have a breath of a sniff of a job like that. Assistant position coach. Basically you help or run drills in practice. I don't really know how any of those women could really help improve a player. They haven't played anywhere in the Rhelm of that level and best coached maybe a similar Assistant in a big college. But I think very few of those. That's a joke.

Dang, I read it as everyone had to hire a unique special assistant that wasn't already on staff. I just don't think the offensive coaching staff has much quality.

Just hire the best person and best fit for your organization... This beyond goofy. My apologies for anyone that struggled because of that error.
