NFL offers to work with players’ union to study marijuana for pain management

According to Mark Maske of the Washington Post, the NFL sent a letter to the NFLPA offering to work jointly to study the possibility of marijuana use as a pain management tool.

“We look forward to working with the Players Association on all issues involving the health and safety of our players,” said Joe Lockhart, the NFL’s executive vice president of communications.

The NFLPA has been looking into the feasibility of its use already, believing it could be a safer option than opiates to combat the physical pounding players take on a weekly basis.

Could make Bryant a viable long term guy if the study and ruling come out before he reaches FA.

I'm no doctor but this is long over due. Grant it there are side affects to POT use but compared to the opiates / pain medication I wonder which is less bad. Now the "rog" will have the corner market of the gangA sales, so it will all be legitamit in the eyes of fair pricing.

Opiate pain pills are sooo much more dangerous than weed could ever be. I've never done either but I have worked around plenty of addict and kids of addicts. Opiates are incredibly addictive and pretty much interchangeable with heroin, only weaker. So when people can no longer get a script for pills or their addiction becomes such that the pills aren't strong enough, they can either choose to face a long horrific withdrawal from them or start using heroin.

I've spoke to a number of people recently about painkillers, specifically after surgeries. Very common that they either elected to take something like Tylenol or even went without any pain medication.

It all depends on the person. I've had them in the past and I didn't turn into a pillhead. Just do NOT mix them with anything ever. Healthy people die when they drink alcohol and take them. It all depends on the level of pain and the receptors. I'd take damn near anything if it was severe pain.

I've seen some very respectable people turn into "pillheads" as you so callously call them. Just because you didn't get addicted doesn't mean millions of people don't. Certain people are chemically predisposed to addiction and not necessarily because they are weak willed. I wouldn't take them no matter how much pain I was in just because I know what they can do to some people. Not taking that chance.
