The Pittsburgh Steelers were flying very high with Russell Wilson as their quarterback after he took over for Justin Fields. Fields had done a nice job steering Pittsburgh to a 4-2 record to start the 2024 season. There was heavy debate about if Head Coach Mike Tomlin should continue to start Fields at quarterback or hand the team over to Wilson.

These rumors are ridiculous. I guess we are going to have Rodgers as starter and Cousins as the backup or maybe Wilson as backup and Cousins as QB3. I'm sure Pickens and Rodgers would get along great. Tomlin likes to call players out I'm sure Rodgers would love that as well. I like Rodgers, but he is not elite or even good anymore. Putting him in our offense would be an expensive disaster.

I'd rather let Russ go, give Fields a contract, giving QB coach Tom Arth some clear expectations. Arth did a great job coaching up a young Justin Herbert with the Chargers, so we'll see what he can do with that talent. Keep Kyle Allen as the backup, and round out the QB3 spot w/an undrafted FA or bring in a cheap tier 2/3 FA QB in the offseason.

Florio's comment about getting the best guy at the lowest cost would be the smartest move. I said in another thread, Wilson is probably on the Baker Mayfield type contract ($33 million per year) and Fields more likely what Sam Darnold got ($10 million). There really aren't many options in free agency or the draft and there are a lot of teams that will be looking for a QB, which will inflate Wilson and Fields from the above values.
