As per several reports. I always figured a phone call was made.

For almost two years, rumors floated in NFL circles about the league making back-channel deals with the then St. Louis Rams about drafting Michael Sam as a way to save face.

Now someone is reporting it. Howard Balzer of 590 The Fan in St. Louis wrote that the NFL made a deal with the Rams that they would be exempt from HBO’s behind-the-scenes training camp series, "Hard Knocks" if they drafted Sam. The Rams took Sam with the third of their four seventh-round picks (pick No. 250 overall) in the 2014 NFL draft.

Shutdown Corner sent emails to the Rams and to the NFL for a response, but neither has responded yet. Rams head coach Jeff Fisher went on "The Dan Patrick Show" and denied the report.

“That in itself is absolutely absurd. It’s 100 percent incorrect,” Fisher said. “I was really taken aback by those comments. It’s insulting, from my standpoint, as it relates to Michael. We had three seventh-round picks [up to that point]. When we drafted Michael he was the best player on the board. Who in their right mind would think that you give up a draft choice to avoid doing something like that?”

Sam did not make the team out of training camp, despite an impressive preseason performance, and was cut without being re-signed to the practice squad. Sam never has appeared in an NFL regular-season game and currently is a free agent.

It figures. Pandering and PR.

Reality to Liberals is seeing the world the way they think it should be, not the way it actually is. If Sam wasn't drafted there is no way in hell in their minds it was because he wasn't good enough, it would have to be because he is gay. It's the only logical explanation. The Rams had THREE 7th round picks? No damn wonder, it was a decent deal for them.

By all accounts the guy was lazy and didn't give much effort. I guess he thought if you were gay you should get a free pass. More and more people, every day, think they should get theirs for just being alive, no effort needed. Did you see the one news story about a black kid who got shot while trying to rob a house, and his mother said, "How else he sposed to get paid?" As if, you should be allowed to rob people if you aren't getting enough free hand outs. "How else he sposed to get paid?" Well, I don't know, try working.

was mentioned how else is he supposed to get clothes for school

ummmm work for it?

Once more... Sam came out (for the draft) in what may be the deepest draft in 20 years, and it was especially deep in Dlinemen. there were a bunch with 3rd or 4th round numbers most seasons who fell to the 7th or went undrafted... some had better numbers than Sam. He didn't "come out" as a homosexual until after the mocks showed him as a 7th or undrafted guy. It was obvious PR manipulation trying to create a buzz to make sure he got drafted... the funny part is that had he not done that, he could easily have signed a bigger contract as a priority free agent and probably made a few more bucks than he got as a 7th rounder

Or if he was really REALLY good, a team would take a chance on him and it would be worth the media attention and distraction. As it is, I think most teams' judgement was that he was adequate at best which wasn't enough to offset the baggage.

We have to quit being shocked by this stuff, though. I think this is becoming a prevalent attitude, encouraged from the top levels of our government. That is something maybe we haven't seen before.

I kept saying that he came out just before the draft because he was a tweeter who wasn't physically large and strong enough to play full-time DE, and wasn't fast enough to be at OLB. I thought all along that he came out to set himself up to file a discrimination lawsuit if he wasn't drafted. I also pointed out how Ezra Tuallo played 10 years in the league as a defensive lineman and it was kind of an open secret that he was gay.

Gays and Rams need to stop being so butt hurt. Its water under the bridge. But L.A is full of liberals. They may see the Rams differently cause of this story now. O.o
