After losing Mauro who played great for the Cards yesterday the Chiefs are signing Williams off our practice squad. We lose two promising players while trash like Landry Jones and Cam Thomas waster roster spots.

I watched a little bit of the seachickens/cardinals game didn't know Mauro was playing....did he play that well?

Looks like he played about 38% of their defensive snaps, which seems quite a bit for someone who wasn't on the team last week. Doesn't say anything about how well he played, I guess.

Must have played well, Lynch averaged 2.6 yards a carry. If it wasn't for Wilson scrambling, the Seahawks have no running game against that D.

Mauro Stat line from yesterday.

2 Total tackles
1 Solo
1 Sack
1 TFL
1 PD

I honestly don't get the Nick Williams signing but we picked up Kruger's brother.

Hell, Tuitt barely sees the field. Even if they had placed Mauro or Williams on the 53, do you think they'd have been playing? Sucks for sure. But, that's the NFL. Until/unless they expand the roster size, this stuff is gonna happen.

I watched the game and Mauro played a great game. The hammered Wilson for 5 sacks (that I remember) and Lynch did absolutely nothing. If the Cards had a QB they win that game.

Agreed, Cards and no QB suddenly show their vulnerability. Do they have the answer? Don't know if current QB sucks eggs or just had a bad day in general?

Salute the nation

He's just a guy. Which won't get it done in Seattle. Their RB was also hurt. All Seattle had to do was stack the line and force them to throw. The Cards defense played great.

Ya had to go and remind us about Landry...sigh...

Sad to see Williams go, I was also wanting to see something from him in the future. He maybe available again, the chiefs may only want him for learning our defensive signals.

Good point about the defensive signals. Good luck to them with that ... I hear it takes two years at least. ;)

Probably takes two years for the players given some of the great demonstrations of intellect we have seen over the years. Coaches might be better at it, at least some of them.

How do the chiefs know ANYTHING about Nick Williams? How do they know his progression, health, What he is capeable of.?

no im serious. Is Williams' agent sending out film? He has been on our roster for 2 seasons.. I guess they have the preseason film ,, but wtf.. How do they pull a trigger on him like this midseason,,

Im not looking for arugments.. im just saying this is weird to me.

I would imagine each team keeps intel on the practice squads of other franchises, and certain scouts are tasked with studying up on those positions/position groups that they know their current 53 man roster is lacking (or without adequate depth)

That is likely the best scenario as well as the fact that Nick played in at least one regular season game and was likely able to be noticed from that. I hate this damn practice squad thing and the fact that the whole team can not dress for games. It would be a whole lot more sensible if everyone on the team was "on the team" and was able to dress for the games. This raiding players just because they have some promise from other teams sucks.

Maybe just maybe if we had some scouts out there pilfering talent from other teams rather than watching our day 2 draftees get developed on our ps only to depart we would feel differently. Maybe if we did better roster analysis guys like Mauro would be the depth on the team, guys like Hood wouldn't be wasted draft picks and we could spend an early pick on a DB once a decade. All maybes which suggest a weakness in the front office in terms of player acquisition and retention.

In the future maybe we could package our 5,6 and 7 to move up into the bottom of the 3rd or use the to amass picks in the following years draft to be more mobile. We seem decent at acquiring some solid UDFAs, but struggle to retain them. I fully expect the departure of Johnson, Blanchflower and Dangerfield in the coming weeks ( if not already gone) it's been a minute since I looked at the ps
