Elway son pleads guilty in domestic violence case

DENVER (AP) -- Jack Elway, the son of Denver Broncos general manager John Elway, has pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case involving his girlfriend.

Court records show the 25-year-old John Albert Elway on Tuesday pleaded guilty to disturbing the peace and was sentenced to one year of probation that includes domestic violence counseling. Prosecutors withdrew an assault charge.

Elway was arrested in May after his girlfriend told Denver police that he pulled her from a car by her hair and shoved her to the ground when she tried to get back inside, causing scrapes. Police say Elway then fled the scene.

Court records show Elway is forbidden from possessing firearms and from having contact with the woman in the case.

His attorney, Harvey Steinberg, did not immediately return a call for comment.

I think that domestic violence is a recurring thing in our society and happens way more than what the stats say. It might be about more than 60% of women who have ever suffered verbal or physical violence during a relationship

I'm sorry, I have to call bullshit on more than 60% of women have been abused. I think you're taking it a bit far there. What do you mean by verbal abuse? Arguing, or belittling? To be honest, I've heard a LOT more women belittle their men that I have men belittle their women, but that's just my experience.

Verbal abuse?!?!?

If we are accepting verbal abuse as a sob story- then I can say that without a doubt, there are more men being 'verbally abused' by women than vice versa

Years ago when the domestic violence laws were new and novel I was a police officer. We were all sent to a training class in large groups to be briefed by two women who already thought every man was guilty. The new law required the accused to be removed and jailed pending review or the complainant to be placed into a shelter with any dependent children. The talk began with evry 45 seconds or something like that a woman is beaten, the reply from the back of the room was every 45 seconds there is a woman that does not know when to shut the **** up. The big problem with these types of laws is they try to be a one size fits all when most situations are different from each other. Since these things have been enacted many times they are abused by the supposed victims.

One instance a fight was started by the woman who got whacked called the police and had the boyfriend/ husband don't remember which at this time arrested. While he was gone she and her friends emptied the apartment of everything and fled the state. As all coins there are two sides. I do not condone domestic violence however thinking it should protect someone from harsh language is a bit of a stretch.

she tried to assault her way into his car... how is he abusing her? It says he threw her to the ground after the fact.. just sayin

Agreed. I love women and most of men do. Do they take things to far when a confrontation is engaged - yes - maybe no; but, in this equal world - someone needs to know when to say "when" and walk away.

I think there are two ways I put my hands on a woman:

1. If she spat in my face
2. If she branded me with a hot iron

In those scenarios I would probably pin the woman's arms down and force her to her buttocks and then feed some choice words to her. At least I think that's what I'd do...

John's son, however, needs some help.

How does this affect the Broncos? Does Elway's son work for them? And if so, its in the front office, so who cares? I don't get the hoopla.

So your saying he fought back after being assaulted, you mean he actually had to fight back. That is not fair there is no way a man should ever be allowed to stop an attack by a woman.
See the thinking in the media.

Well when I said verbal I meant threats and mental abuse, like putting the other person down over and over again. And I think women do this crap too.

And yes, maybe I went overboard with the %, but there are a lot of abused women who won't say it publicly.
