Multiple reports including those from Ravens players of our guys throwing up on the field. We've also seen it ourselves .. I thought we needed to bring out a stretcher during Browns game for most Of the D .. Now Troy with his comments maybe confirming that as well... That falls directly on COACH TOMLIN ... I think we will get in game shape over next few weeks and play better ball but the direction of this team does not seem very good. I've already read where everyone wants MIKE gone ... I agree with that.. However at this point we have to find a way to play better this season. Lets hope it's as simple as getting in better shape.

The team is NOT going to get into better shape during the season. Offseason and training camp are the time to get in shape; during the season, the team is working on implementing the game plan on both offense and defense for the upcoming game, and traveling for half their games.

Where did you read that?

Edit: nevermind...i thought you were referring to the actual players

No it isn't as simple as being in better shape, they have to be maintaining their gap assignments. Instead of looking like the bad news bears out there.

The reason the defense is throwing up is because they are running wind sprints chasing every RB 30 yds downfield on every play.

It's not a lack of conditioning on their part, just a lack of talent.

oh good. something new, fresh and exciting. Another Tomlin bashing thread.

If it is truly just a matter of getting into shape, then this team is lost before it started. To have to play 2 games, just to find out you are not in good enough shape, then you are lost, completely. Weather a coach or a player.

Being outscored 50-9 in six quarters makes me wanna throw up, too. If they are out of shape, then shame on the entire Steeler organization. They should be ashamed to suit up and accept their paychecks. They are professional athletes. I have nothing else to say.

Yep, and here you are reading it, huh??

Omar. My man-

Its not that as if we are Mega-Tomlin supporters. Hell, I dont even think superman is a fan of Tomlin. Its just that it would be nice to read threads with some variety. Not threads that simply use 10 different methods to state that they dont like the coach. The Troy thread, for example, was laughable...

It's kind of hard to not have Tomlin at the front of most post. He's pretty much the main reason we are were we are. A steeler team that appears to be soft... I'm hoping that's not the case and they simply need to be in game shape.

That is funny I have heard reports that SOME of the players are in better shape than ever -- That is locally

Okay??? I'm not sure what to tell you other than, if you're not a fan of what you're reading, then move along and read something else, "my man"

How about I just use your argument:

If they're puking from exhaustion it's because they can't get off the field. Try holding the other team to 3-and-out once in a while.

They're only allowed to practice for a very limited time during OTA's and during camp. They need two-a-days back but the CBA won't allow it. So, contracts now need to state that a player must come to camp and even to games ready to play. If they don't, they get a significant fine.

This is a spot on post, and I agree about the contract changes. but this goes beyond that, it's also about respect. Respect for the coach the team the fans and themselves. its funny that the CBA isn't affecting ALL the teams this way. there seem to be a lot of players that lack pride, and respect, and that falls on both Tomlin and Rooney.

I haven't read all available articles, on all NFL teams. If there are other "out of shape" teams, then I agree about the CBA affects. I haven't read about other out of shape teams so I assume if our team is "out of shape", then our entire organization is in question. Rooney's on down, including coaches. How the heck does one not know if they are in good enough shape? If this is truly the case, then CLEAN entire house!!!!!

No. The Steelers are my team, so I will stick it out and hope the day we clean house and fix things, will come sooner rather than later. Are you going to stick it out on this message board and hope that those of us legitimately griping on a message board, will stop griping?

I don't assume to know how the Steeler get in shape or if they work out with weights, but guys like Gilbert and Thomas don't look powerful or strong on their feet. They probably can bench my weight with one arm, but my concern is when the Ravens rookie center was blowing Thomas off the line and GIlbert kept getting pushed back into Ben. I don't know if it's technique or strength or both. Hopefully, it gets addressed sooner than later.

almost feels like some players are just there to hang out...don't care about wins, just some coin and the limelight.

It started with a bad decision made for the wrong reason and has cascaded since.

This "administration" INHERITED a potential dynasty. It had a young Super Bowl winning roster that was good enough to cruise through the 2008 season and post season and win it all. They weren't dominant, just very talented. The defense could rise up and carry an often lackadaisical offense. But it was the beginning of the end of Steeler football. That team would have won it all with the Jack in the Box clown at the helm, the roster was that stacked. Then in 2009 they started to really show the lack of leadership, discipline, and hunger that would have sustained them into a dynasty and they seriously regressed. They were even less dominant in 2010 than in 2008 but still managed to eek into the SB only to lose in a very poor offensive "performance" in which they should have torched a totally depleted GB secondary. The defense was on their last gasp at that point. That D was #1 in 5 of that 10 year span and carried the team through the transition from Cowher to the meltdown.

Very poor drafting, NO player development, attrition of the SB core, and hopeless mismanagement has eroded the winningest franchise since the merger into an undisciplined group of young men that seem to have little interest in the game, much less the uniform they wear. Their presence on that field Thursday night was a mockery of all things Steelers. They should be ashamed but they aren't because they aren't asked to take any pride in their work.

We hear that "it's a business", and in the last analysis, it is. The majority of ownership is in the hands of recent investors that bought in at a high point. This franchise's value is entirely dependent on a national following that feeds of the Steeler brand of sport and shows up, buys stuff, and buoys TV ratings. This "administration" has killed all that and is eroding the value of the brand and franchise. One wonders how long the majority will tolerate that. Surely they will demand wholesale changes sooner rather than later. Let's be real here sports fans, this band of disinterested sideline pukers isn't going to scare up an 8-8 record again this year, or anywhere close to it. If they're at less than .500 midway, the money has to clean house.

The parallels to what has transpired on a societal level since 2008 are eery.

Boy, that is deep, and a complete crock of ****.

They were not as dominant as you portrayed them in '08. They were a very good team, but so dominant a "jack in the box" could have led them? C'mon, stop talking out your ***. That team wasn't the '78 Steelers.

I am not defending Tomlin, but jeez. What happened in '09 happens to many Super Bowl champs these days. The players can't stay focused enough to win it twice in a row. I don't care if Lombardi was up in front of them. I will be shocked if another team wins back to back. Another hing is their best players got old and couldn't play anymore. Well, you'll say, replace them. they haven't replaced them well. If it was that ******' easy, the Steelers would have about 25 trophies because they could have just replaced those guys from the '70s.

The 2008 Steelers had arguably the best defense the league had seen since the 2000 Ravens. Both Harrison and Polamalu were deserving of DMVP, and Aaron Smith, Woodley and Taylor had All-pro caliber seasons.

That team's formula for winning was dominant defense keeping it close, with Roethlisberger, who did not have a good season overall, finding ways to pull games out of his *** at the end.

They were a flawed team, but with the defense's dominance and Roethlisberger's absurd level of clutchness, I fail to see a specific fingerprint from Tomlin on that team that told me just about anyone else could not have coached that team to the same result.

Tomlin merely had a Brian Billick moment with that team.
