Obama tells federal agencies to 'ban the box' on federal job applications.

President Obama said Monday he was directing federal agencies to "ban the box" in their hiring decisions, prohibiting them from asking prospective government employees about their criminal histories on job applications.

Unreal.

Felony convictions are racist. Blacks should never be arrested. Because of slavery.

arent prisoners essentially wards of the state as it is? so now the taxpayers not only house, clothe and feed those who break laws, we get to pay their wages to **** **** up in government offices.

Fixed it

I'm starting to think at least half of Democratic voting base is made up of people who " vote " for a living. Now it appears they want to bring in convicts as well.

I hope Obama's comment is part of the Democratic and Republican Debates. Why not!

I wonder if this will make Michelle more proud to be an American.

It’s like he stays awake at night thinking of new ways to bring the country down.

Comforting to know that your family postman is a two-time felony rape convict, eh?

If a convict wants to work and do well for himself you should applaud him for trying not find ways to make it near impossible to survive.

Well at first I was like WTF, but if you read everything companies still do background checks. At my work it does not matter what you put on your app if you have / had a felony conviction even if it was 20 yrs ago you will not be hired. As I see it there are 2 choices. 1.) Give felons a chance to work somewhere, or 2.) Give felons welfare, food stamps, cash assistance and free medical to sit around and drink/smoke. I believe some really want to change their lives and others not so much. I dont know about working with convicted murderers or rapists, but people who get out after things like theft or fraud or some such I say give them a chance.

Obama unveils anti-crime plan: Cops to drive ice cream trucks in black neighborhoods

The Obama-Holder-Lynch 30-page guide, titled “Moving from Recommendations to Action,” is being peddled by the administration as a training aid to help local police departments implement Obama’s “criminal justice reforms.”

“Under the section, Changing the Culture of Policing, one of Obama’s recommendations is for police officers to give more voice to minority suspects, treating them with dignity and respect, while checking their own implicit cultural and racial biases. In other words, more listening and less cuffing".

Obama’s guide encourages police chiefs to have their agencies become more open to the people within the communities they serve. He then goes on to suggest: “To help build that trust… cops [should] drive ice cream trucks into high-crime areas and hand out free ice cream cones to suspected drug dealers”

The problem is two fold. first there are just too many laws that you can get a felony conviction for that are not really crimes. Things like drug possession and failure to report a cash transaction spring to mind. its causing a brain drain of skilled potential hires that cant get jobs because of bullshit criminal records and are thus not contributing to society and paying taxes. We are bumping up against the consequences of saying "there aught to be a law" and demanding congress pass a bill. Second we are finding that at some point, if we want to people who have committed crimes in their past to again be productive citizens, we have to forgive them for these crimes. Logic dictates if you want a person to reform themselves and not be a recidivist criminal you have to give them an opportunity to make a living some way other than turning back to criminal activity. So I honestly don't have problem with this. The FCRA used to set out a clear concise set of rules about what information could be used to make a hiring decision but the hysteria in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks scuttled all of that.

Is this real? Or like the onion.

Thank goodness felons can't vote or a republican would never win.

I'm sure Obama, right before the election will try to do some executive order that gives millions of immigrants the right to vote (if they've live here for like 10 years or something) and give all felons the right to vote as well. That would make sure ole' Hillary gets into the White House.

The problem with this cartoon is that all them guys are white. Obama isn't letting any whites out of prison...is he ?

Delijzc,

Are you for this move. A quick yes or no will suffice. As for Criminals, Obama's pardon list will be interesting.

This is the problem I have with this, Barry wants to make this a blanket type coverage.
Big difference between a child molester and an 18 year old that got busted for weed and a bong.

No. I don't think felons should have the right to vote.

Correct - they've already shown their inability to make rational choices. They chose to ignore laws made to protect us from people like them. Sorry, you've given up the "right" to vote as you don't have a rational thought process and make poor moral choices. Tigers do NOT change their stripes.

Let's follow this logic out to its inevitable conclusion. Doing jail time has a negative impact on one's future. Quit putting people in jail......problem solved.

Well, I disagree with the tigers and stripes. My sister-in-law is an ex-felon. Some drug offense back when she was 20 years old or something. Got involved with the wrong guy, yada, yada. She's as normal as normal can be now (she's in her 40's).

It's a harsh punishment not to be able to vote, but I still think it's correct.
