President Obama has come out in support of reclassifying internet service as a utility, a move that would allow the Federal Communications Commission to enforce more robust regulations and protect net neutrality. "To put these protections in place, I'm asking the FCC to reclassifying internet service under Title II of a law known as the Telecommunications Act," Obama says in a statement this morning. "In plain English, I'm asking [the FCC] to recognize that for most Americans, the internet has become an essential part of everyday communication and everyday life."

So if it is essential and part of everyday life, it must be regulated. He thinks that is an argument that makes sense?

Of course this is just power grab and tax play. This would necessitate a new bureaucracy, which would need funding, and that would come in form of an internet tax. And for those tax dollars you get the benefit of government controlled internet. Ain't that sweet?

if they could tax oxygen, they would

I wish we could just vote them all out right now... let me say this; if he goes through with it its going to go over poorly with worldwide archist hackers, and someone will pay the price... I hope they bankrupt everyone involved in it and attach horrible things to their records have a perminant blemish on them

They found a way to tax rain here in Maryland. Seriously.

That's one of the reasons a Republican is now Governor.

Partly it's to control what's on the internets, partly it's the usual Democrat wealth transfer where some people get stuff for free that other people pay for. You had home heating assistance, now you have internet assistance because it's a necessity and some people (who vote Democrat) can't afford it.

"Bomma gives me free internets so I votes for Him ten time. Online."

If there was a internet porn tax, I'd be broke.

That's part of it. The other part is large Telecoms wanting to insure regional monopolies. What is most funny to me is all the Neo-Socialist Daleks cheering this as a way to stop evil corporations from making money through regulation. They don't seem to realize that the corporations will be making the regulations via their lobbyists.

this is what I fear...

Consumers should want the internet classified as a utility, so that everyone gets high speed service at a lower cost.
The service providers don't want it classified as a utility, so they can tier the service and charge higher prices
per different levels of speed. (Low, medium, high) ($29.99, $49.99, $79.99)

21, you actually do believe all the **** Obama says don't you? Truly sad!

Once again, the Liberal doesn't understand the difference between cost and price.

Fixed it for you:
Consumers should want the internet classified as a utility, so that everyone gets high speed service at a lower price.
And when that happens, service will get worse and slower, not better and faster. When a price is held artificially low it creates a shortage. One of the laws of economics.

When you limit internet access, you also limit e-commerce consumers. Almost all e-businesses are for universal availability
of the internet.

If I were in charge, I'd privatize the post office and use the proceeds to make internet access and computer ownership universal.
Many of the Asian countries have already done this and they are moving ahead of us, particularly in educating and developing
their children. We spend a lot more money delivering snail mail to rural areas, when the same communication could be delivered
instantly to a digital device. We can't keep doing things dumb forever without becoming less and less competitive economically.

Obama's FCC wants a new internet tax to make up for a dwindling funding from phone line taxes.

South Korea has 100 times faster connections than the average US connection for approx.
$20 per month charge.

Samsung must be smiling, that helps keep them a World Leader.

In this country regulation of an industry is done so poorly that it often means inflated huge bucks for that industry... deregulated electric is toxic to power companies. They cannot make (charge) near as much as the regulated versions. If the govt didnt allow utility line monopolies, but allowed competition from providers it wouldnt be half bad. Cable and satelite companies are too deeply entrenched in political pockets to do this right... its just a money and control grab in one of the last bastions of true freedom on the planet

oxygen is already taxed, most heavily by the coal companies

Take a look at Bejing, the Chinese don't have to pay the tax in dollars, they pay it in
life expectancy.

Of course. As we all know, government regulation lowers cost and improves quality.

If you see a problem and your solution is more government involvement, you have misstated your problem.
