Odds that we trade Trubisky?

I know everyone has talked a lot about possibly trading Rudolph but what if Tribusky was the one to get traded? I know the possibility of Rudolph being traded is more likely but I think we could get more for Tribusky especially from someone like the Giants. It’s obvious Pickett will be the man sooner rather than later. I think Rudolph is a career back up and nothing more and nothing less. Also, Rudolph has actually overall been the better QB in training camp this season. Just some random thoughts and idea how this could play out.

I'm not even sure Rudoph is on the block. I think Picket sits at #3 and moves up if injury ocurs. I know that's not a popular thought but it is a possibility.

I could maybe see that happening. Especially if they really do want to bring him along slowly. The only thing is with all the experience he already has I don’t see it happening. It’s not like he’s Malik Willis who needs a year or two to learn the game. I really think it will ultimately end up being two out of the 3 with one being traded. I also believe Tomlin that this last preseason game will determine who starts and the other QB they keep.

I could see this happening next year. not this year
The only thought with that is yeah on paper it looks like a 2 year contract but really how it’s broken down it's really a one year deal. They wouldn’t get much if at all for him next year IMO.

No, the cap hit grows by two million dollars if we do… it would have to be a hell of a deal to do that

I'm hoping Pickett is not at #3. #3's basic job is to hold a clipboard with no chance of playing. They really don't need to prepare for the game. #2 has to prepare like they're going to play because they're only one Myles Garret helmet swing away from getting into the game. I'd rather Pickett get the experience in game preparation so he knows how to next year when he's moved up to #1.

Of course injury could change everything, and with this line...

I also assumed this going in as it is the Steeler way, but given what he has shown so far and how fast the hype train is rolling they may have to at least have him as the #2…it definitely makes sense from a reps standpoint and helping his development

First dip to 2 games under .500 put him in or at first sign that the OL has actually learned to block anybody.

Picture this: We’re down 17-13 in the late 3rd or early 4th at Hines’ Field (yeah that’s what I call it) and T-biscuit can’t pull himself up off the turf after getting destroyed by a blitzer…what’s gonna look better through a pair of really cool shades?

A) Rudy come running out to a chorus of boo birds and any energy left evaporates

B) BK Hand comes running out, the place just explodes and a rare early Renegade gets blasted for the offense

The odds are slim to none. It makes absolutely no sense on any level to trade Trubisky. He is QB1, Pickett should be QB2 (unless Tomlin is as dumb as many of us think) and Rudolph is QB3 unless they can get someone to cough up a 4th rounder for him. If Pickett is your QB of the future, he has to be active on game days and get reps in practice and that only happens if he is the QB2.

Zero.

I don't think the Steelers are trading any QB's. With that offensive line, they are going to need all hands on deck. As much as Rudolph is maligned on this board, I'll take him over an unknown if it comes down to that.

Thank god the preseason is almost over. This offense will go as the OL goes. The DL must stop the run hopefully without bringing Minkah up to assist all of the time.

We could look exactly like last year with real quick short passes because our qb whomever that is, will be under seige the moment he has the ball snapped.

Only so much any mobile qb can do when opposing defenses can punch through with their front 4. They press everyone else and **** will get ugly real quick.

The qb spot is the last of my concerns right now. Not with the offensive talent they have.

I think the only way we trade Mason is if the return is too good to pass up. Lets say there is a desperate team out there looking for a solid backup for whatever reason. Mason has put up some pretty good tape this preseason and if he plays well Sunday, I could see a team making an offer. If a team like Detroit for example offers a fourth round pick I think the Steelers are all over it, otherwise he will stay put.
Mitch is not going anywhere this year! Depending how much he plays and how well he plays this year and when Kenny is ready to take over will determine Mitch's future here. If Kenny takes over this year at any point in the season we still need a solid backup and that would be Mitch. Going into next year we would need a solid backup and that would be Mitch so don't see him being traded. Who the hell would be the backup since we have no one being developed.

I consider things a little differently.
Most of us expect the season to be somewhere near .500. Maybe 2 or 3 games over, and everyone is happy, post Ben. 11-6 would be awesome given OL, no clear starting QB, ILB issues, etc.

If that is the case, and we will be looking up at Buffalo, KC and perhaps even the Bungles, then there is little point in keeping 3 "sorta starting" QBs.
Obviously Pickett is the future, either later in this season, or next year.

But if Trubisky starts and gets hurt, Pickett gets the ball. If he gets hurt too, who really cares about the rest of the season? I mean we are looking at fixing the holes in next year's draft.....so why do we need a QB3 that might bring a return --- for next year's draft --- if dealt to a team in need now? In that scenario, I would rather be 5-11 with QB3Project and better picks for next year than to have a serviceable QB3 like Rudy and finish 9-8 drafting at 20 again.
If one of the two QBs at 1 and 2 make it thru the season, then we should have traded Rudy to a team with need.

Trade him for what? Draft picks are overrated. The importance of having a good QB in today’s NFL is not.

In this nfl, trades are more important than ever… last year we added Witherspoon for a fifth, making it easier to find out how he fit and resigning him in the offseason… last year we also traded a disgruntled Ingram for a sixth that turned into Conner Heyward…

Hell Rudolph is only here because we basically traded Martavis Bryant and a seventh for the pick to get him in a round about way…

you have definitely been pushing trades this year. and when you put it this way it makes a lot of sense. Nice

Yeah I went through the list of nfl trades the past few years and it’s moving more in that direction league wide… so getting those fifths and sixths is actually quite useful for patching holes on the roster now

Where's Wolf? We need to put a stop to this!

I think they roll with Pickett as QB3 at least for a while. Mitch starts Rudy as #2. Week 3-5will determine who stays, who goes, then KP moves to #2 and then #1 next year at the latest.

we need to keep all 3 QBS. Start Mitch. do everything to improve the oline before KP takes over

The thing with any potential trade is you have to consider a few things…

1 how it impacts your starters right now
2 How it impacts your depth
3. What the cap implications are right now
4. What the future cap implications will be
5. How it impacts your roster next season
6. What the total cost in assets is going to be compared to the value of the asset you are bringing in

So for instance, we may have a massive hole at LT… we are very deep at DL.. do you trade a depth DL guy for a low end starting LT? Probably if the cap implications aren’t too restrictive… it becomes a bit more questionable if you are trading a starter at DL for that LT, and you almost certainly wouldn’t trade a starter at LB (except maybe bush, lol) for a starter at LT…

You wouldn’t trade a QB for a sixth or seventh knowing that if injuries hit, you’ll be paying that for a lesser one…

Lets say you needed a qb badly… you could get Jimmy G for a sixth or seventh rounder right now if the rumors are true, but you have to pay him 20 million dollars… and you almost certainly lose him in the offseason unless you pay him a similar salary going forward…

Its all asset management..

Trading Rudolph only has an impact on the potential comp pick process next year…
You save 3 million in cap space this year

Trading Trabisky takes him off the roster next year, meaning you have to go get another good qb.. you lose an extra 2 million in cap space this year… you lose the assets you have to give up for that other qb… even if you sign a quality free agent, that is impacting your comp picks..
