This game seemed to me to demonstrate that we have the necessary talent, but lack the intelligence to win consistently. The opening series was all runs, moving the ball from our 32 to their 31, and ending with a FG. Sure, we moved the ball on the ground, but maybe just one pass in there, once they started loading up the box? Maybe instead of trying to run on that last 3rd and 6, you go play-action and throw a quick slant for the first down?
Then, despite the quick 10 points, the Titans got rolling and it was panic mode - the offense became very pass-happy, and we couldn't get anything going for almost 3 whole quarters. It wasn't until late third quarter or beginning of the fourth where even Chucky was frothing about how the Steeler offense needed to recognize the defensive formations and adjust the play calls to take advantage and slow down their blitzes. And finally, that's what happened - we started reacting to the defense, calling audibles based on what the defense was showing, and suddenly there was a lot more success. But it seemed to me like we could have made that adjustment in the second quarter and rolled over Tennessee instead of letting them control most of the game.
So the question is, is that because Ben is too dumb to make these adjustments sooner in the game, or is the coaching staff too dumb to make these adjustments sooner in the game? Or, is it a combination of the two?
