You hear a lot of different things about how this song came about to be our battle cry.

This video is a very good watch and learn.

More to it than one thinks, plus you get to see some not to old footage of players…..

Strongly recommend watch and comment of like the song / over-used / etc……….

I'm glad I got to experience one these live, but I think it's lost is "advantage". It still gets the crowd hyped for sure, but I think other teams play it in practice and plan for it, so it doesn't quite have the same effect it once did. I think they get hyped from it as well now.

Back in the conception of the song and use of it, that defense was much easier to time the song. That defense lead the league in take-always several years and if not lead, were top 5 in contention of it.

The stadium producer (makes the decisions as to when to play) had it much easier back then. Today’s Defense is a tough prediction to play because of the lame scheme involved.

When the song originated as our battle cry, it was hoped to pump and make a huge play by the defense. Sadly, todays defense just can’t hold that consistency to be able to semi-accurately decide when to play.

That is the main reason some think it is over-played, in my speculation non-citation mode of thinking.

Thanks for the video DIC. that gave me goose bumps. The feeling in the stands is electric when it's played I hope they keep playing it for as long as I am still alive anyway.

Its always been for the crowd. Rest is coincidence or when the persom in charge legitimately felt the team was surging. If you need a styx song to get you to give your best in a key moment......you are cut.

GREAT post.

I wasn't suggesting that, what I'm saying is teams play it in their practices now. They prepare for the crowd noise in those moments.

Did you watch the video, that defense was a very talented defense, but even they got pumped to a degree, when that’s song was played.

I agree, it isn’t the sole thing they pumped up to play, but while in the heat of battle it definately can’t hurt.

I remember when it seemed like our D came up with a huge play or stop everytime they played it. Not so much now. They hold off playing it now until there is like a 3rd and 20 play and we end up giving up an easy pass to the middle of the field for 25 yards. Smh

We had blowing snow, wind, lightning and thunder all at the same time today. Some trees are falling apart but luckily it is warming up fast to melt the ice load.

Confluence was probably in the hurt locker of the recent ice storms in his area ........ still a couple hundred thousand without power ........other than that things are tariffic ......lol

Maybe if the crowd got energized to an extent. I guarentee Styx was not those guys music of choice.
Plus the guy calling those defenses probably always had a couple tricks still up his sleeve to end it. Currently they have Mr. Roboto who calls tge sake safe **** endlessly.

Oh Mama, I'm in tears for my team
And sixteen years of its fatal flaw
A man named Tomlin has put an end to my hopes
‘Cause he’s stuck in Martyball

Oh Mama, I can hear you a-cryin'
you're so scared but not alone
Steeler Nation is coming down to the tavern
Looking to drown our sorrows home (yeah!)

The jig is up, the news is out
Yet Coach T is so happy
A fraud and fake, that’s what it takes
If your last name is Rooney
Nevermore to win it all
Dark days ahead for sure, for the black & gold

That was awesome DIC!!! Thanks for posting that.

The Browns come back win mentioned in that game brought back a sweet memory. The Steelers had me so furious I stormed out of the house grabbing a six pack of beer and a lawn chair and sat in my back yard planning on getting hammered. Three beers in I hear my wife in the house cheering wildly so I got up and went inside just in time to see the win. I missed it!!

I got on here and told everyone what happened, and our dear sweet CAH burned a CD of the game and sent it to me. I still have it and keep it with my Steeler memorabilia. See below

CAH's generous gift

I played that song during commercials of Steelers games long before it became a thing. It's definitely played out.

I never really cared for the song. Does it fire people up? It doesn't to me.

In the right situation it can be fire. But if the team trots out mediocre, fans won’t be feeling the vibe.

Hard to rah rah when your team is spitting out meh meh.
