They are showing Green as the No. 2 C and not at guard. Tomlin might find a way to keep him on the roster after all. It's only in shorts but to have him taking No. 2 reps at any position at any time is a surprise right now.

I agree, but maybe the off-season did wonders for the kid............ I'm sure they are looking at all options with him, and the fact of his rookie contract cost.

That isn’t really a big deal right now. OTAs are never a good indicator for the final position on depth charts. Its basic introduction and workouts. Guys typically are slotted into the positions they have the most experience and vets who have been with the team will frequently have them ahead of new additions to the roster during otas…

Minicamp and training camp you will see more experimentation with depth charts and position flexibility

Backup C is basically a bunch of noobs. Of course they are going to put Green there… he was like the 9th string guard…

The Fate of Mr. Green

The deep tradition of the the starting center runs deep in PITTSBURGH. Green was hand picked and drafted to fulfill the role of a departing PRO-Bowl center. Started as a rookie and only injury held him out of last couple games of the season.

The following season, he never dressed for a single game, yet remained rostered.

Here we are, Mr. Green’s third season and listed as the # 2 center on the depth chart……

Don’t get these guys confused with one-another, Mr. GREENE has a near 50 year old #1 ranking Super Bowl commercial better than the current Mr. Green’s roster ranking.

He can snap just fine.

It's the next part that's troubling for him and QBs.

I think it was Supe who had the best idea. Turn him into a NoseTackle as he has a lot of experience on wreaking havoc on QBs.

Here is the thing.. while I am not a big fan of his, he actually does have a small chance that he improved enough to actually be a quality player… he was grossly mismanaged thus far
Take into consideration:
-he was drafted because of his athletic ability… as far as centers go, he was raw.
-much has been made about him being undersized, but really that isn’t his issue…
He bulked up from his college weight and he plays at an acceptable weight for an NFL center… its his technique that is bad.

Last year, in preseason, when Green landed his punches and won in leverage, he was fine… even against bigger opponents… when he didn’t, he couldn’t pull off those recovery techniques and just got blown up…

Its not that he lacks the physical ability… he simply doesn’t have the technical ability yet…
He has been a bit mismanaged

They viewed him as a plug and play guy at center in Klemms system, and he wasn’t strong enough yet to do that… some of his issues were masked by the move to center, with people dismissing his problems as him adjusting to snapping then blocking… turns out he had to learn to block in the nfl first… then switching him back to guard, but also switching to a heavily technical blocking scheme didn’t do him any favors…

It’s theoretically possible that he could be much improved in year three… he was billed as a guy ready to start but really was a developmental guy…

I mean I wouldn’t hold my breath… but it could be the case

I definitely want him to succeed as always for any STEELERS player, but have also held him to the butt of jokes as well.

We have seen vast steps from year two to year three players and you may be right in the Mr. Green step up.

Until mini & training camp get going, that is where we will find out. It would be great to have a tough choice in OL ability, along the line.

except...last year he was working with Pouncy all off-season on technique and with a strength coach to bulk up. It didn't do much for him as he still sucked in limited pre-season action against scrubs. He isn't a serviceable guard let alone a center in the NFL. If Pouncy can't get him coached up, maybe he's hit the ceiling of his potential. I guess we'll see this pre-season.

4 THINGS....TOMLIN COACHING HIS VETS HARD "Your're a mess....Mechanically, you're a mess"....

I'm going to snap if he can't even do that!

At ease Sol——-Ja. You need a cruise in the LUXURY. S10, me driving and NOT Lunar. He hasn’t gotten his certification badge yet and he thinks he’s really kewl beans wearing those broken sunglasses he has.

The 5lb. Bacon slice will settle your stomach so as when we hit the Barrel Spins, you won’t lose it.

Coolie’s diaper stash is fully stocked again so you won’t have to worry there either.

You’re good to go !!!!

Green stinks and Tomlin’s stubbornness is in full display trying to force feed this guy. I don’t like him being a backup anywhere on this OL.
