Holy crap! Apparently for Harrington, Kapanen and a pick.....Leafs even retained some salary.....I could see an EZ 30 goals ouuta him.
Would have rather had Saad.
Well, with all trades and acquisitions, I hope it works out for the Pens. That's another hefty salary on the books, but if he clicks with Sid, it will be a genius trade. I'm not so upset losing Harrington and Spaling. Kapanen is a slight concern because he could be good in the league for awhile and is another #1 gone.
I get the "win now" cry and they better do it in the next two years.
The D concerns me. Losing Martin was expected, but Letang and Maata's health has a big red flag draped over them. They lost Churney, as well. The young guys NEED to step up and play consistent night in and night out. Lovejoy still makes my skin crawl, but we retained Cole. Small victory. We'll see. . . will be exciting come Oct. Kessel needs to come in shape and ready to light some **** up at CEC. No excuses now. Sid got his winger.
Kapanen may be good for a long time, but Kessel is a proven commodity who should also be a good for awhile and helps us win now.
The plan this entire offseason seemed to be to find a winger and go with the young defense, so they are right on track. And watch Kessel end up playing with Malkin before all is said and done.
Would have rather had Saad.
i origanally felt we gave up on biggs to early but he has not progressed at all

he did nothing in the ahl at most he looks like a 4th line C or W and thats a collasell waste for a 22th overal pick.
yes kessell is lazy 1 dimensional and has been out of shape for the past year.5 but felt if they did'nt make it so bait they wanted to move him they could of gotton more
From what I've read, it isn't like they didn't try, they just didn't have what Chicago wanted. As for this trade, the Penguins didn't give up any of their elite prospects and were able to dump some salary (Spaling) and get a draft pick in return. Yes, they gave away some talented prospects with upside, but they got a 27-year old scoring winger signed long term. We will see how this all works out, but this is the first time I've been excited for this team heading into the regular season in two or three years.
The Leafs were forced to eat $1.25 million of Kessel’s annual salary, per year.
Didn't lose Pouliot or Maata, that was huge.
Sid is happy as ****
Happy Canada Day, Sidney Crosby.
The captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins said Wednesday that he believes blockbuster acquisition Phil Kessel will be a welcome addition to team.
“He’s an elite scorer and has a lot of speed. I see him fitting in well with us,” Crosby told Pittsburgh reporter Josh Yohe.
“We’re excited to have him on our team.”

Phil Kessel trade makes Penguins big winners on Day 1 of NHL free agency
The Pittsburgh Penguins were an undeniable winner on the first day of free agent hunting season because they bagged the biggest difference-maker in the marketplace.
While other NHL teams were picking through a mediocre free agent crop, the Penguins made a bold trade to acquire speedy right wing Phil Kessel from the Toronto Maple Leafs to be Sidney Crosby's linemate.

Like all trades, I'm hesitant until I see them in game action. Giving up so much of the future concerns me, but the way they have been drafting, who knows how they will turn out. I get that, but the cupboard is bare and there is no help on the way. That's an unsettling feeling towards the future of Penguin hockey. Kessel is the real deal, no doubt. I've heard a lot of bad reports of his attitude, work ethic and personality.
Really? 'Cause I was pretty pumped this past year..............and if the injury gods had been kind I think you'd have seen an entirely different post season. Spaling's gonna be good, maybe great , and I too think the Pens invest about 10% too heavily on O, but ****.........if you can get Kessel? You get Kessel.
Yep, fully expected a first-round exit before the season began.
Something funny I saw today.....the Pens depth chart.....Malkin, Crosby, Kessel, Guy, guy, guy, guy, guy, etc.
Oh yeah the Pens signed a Ruskey Plotnikov today.
you mean stupid
!
The Craps picked up Justin Williams from LA. Columbus, WASH, TB and the NYR will be tough to beat this year.
