I don't anticipate any problems with Sutton being retained. Far as I am concerned it is as good as done.

The 2020-23 draft classes are out. After a quick scan here's what I came up with from 2014-2023. They had 70 draft picks during this period and I believe 44 are still in the league. It appears nine re-signed a second contract with the Steelers (I may have missed some as I spent about 5 minutes looking this up). It’s nice to see a draft choice that has improved, done well, and offered a second contract. I get the feeling that is actually rarer than most including me,think. Would be interesting to see how many draft choices in the last 10 years have signed a second contract with the Steelers. That criteria should actually be included when it comes to judging draft choice success.
Not overly impressive IMO. Thankfully someone new is setting the board. The 2020-23 draft classes are out. After a quick scan here's what I came up with from 2014-2023. I forgot to add JuJu to the list. Not overly impressive IMO. Thankfully someone new is setting the board.
Yeah, Colbert's drafting abilities certainly declined after 2006, wonder why, just bad luck I suppose.I forgot to add JuJu to the list.
Ryan Shazier-injured
Martavis Bryant-suspensions
Bud Dupree-cost (maybe he'll be back after the Titans cut him)
Artie Burns-bust
Javon Hargrave-cost
James Conner-injury history, though at the price tag, they should've brought him back
Devin Bush-disappointing
No second contracts from 2014-2016 isn't ideal. Then from 2018-2020 the top picks were Edumunds (third contract, iffy), Bush will be gone, they traded Claypool. One top pick signed to a long-term deal in seven years is bad. The lack of day 3 depth players signed to second contracts is also bad. Compare this to Colbert's early tenure.
From 2000-2006, his first two rounds yielded for multiple contracts.

I think Mitch does and that is why he was in FL. with KP and the receivers.I have to wonder, and by no means am I an expert, if Trubisky and Rudolph realize that the market may not be there for them, and a gig with the
Steelers might not be that bad.

I think he has developed into a high end number 2. Whatever that would be worth.Back to Sutton. I think he wants to stay and the Steelers want to keep him. His last contract was probably undervalued and given how they take care of their own, I'd expect the next one to be a little overvalued. It wasn't worth losing Mike Hilton because of the price tag and the same can probably said with Sutton. He's not an elite shutdown cornerback, but he was very good last season.

Is “the door still open” FO speak for vet minimum and a clipboard?Per DK's site Khan hinted that they are looking to extend Trubisky: " ... I want Mitch around. ... I look forward to have him around for a long time. Not only this year, but for a long time."

If Paying Highsmith $12M per is even on the table they should instead be shopping him for picks…$15M deserves a big Dupree no thanksKahn is saying all these night things about our FA's but we all know he is blowing smoke. There is no way we can sign everyone. Sutton for less than $10 million, OK. Highsmith in the $12 million range, well alright. We can't pay top dollar to these complementary pieces. No way we should pay Sutton $12-14 million or Highsmith $15 million. It's business and that would be bad business.
Thanks. Looking at that list,it’s not exactly overwhelming is it?
Now to take it a step further our-free agent signings in the same period. So many misses. So many one or two years of playing then that’s it. The list must be slim of any players signed that lasted longer than 3 plus years.
No wonder our depth of talent has taken a huge hit in the last 10 years.
We just can't afford to pay Watt, the top in the game $30 million (but can and probably will be restructured to kick the can down the road), and another OLB $15+ million, especially when that guy had one season to base that salary on. And, he looked average when Watt wasn't in the games. If Paying Highsmith $12M per is even on the table they should instead be shopping him for picks…$15M deserves a big Dupree no thanks
He’s just benefitting from the Watt factor and definitely not a $12M per guy imo
