So the plan was Raiders Steelers. I had a line on face values, but the extra tickets were insane. As was anywhere near the strip accommodations. Im looking at a couple games in Pittsburgh and tix really aren't bad. Accommodations are another story. So I'm wondering a couple things. Better areas to stay for reasonable accommodations and gameday parking or transportation downtown.

I usually park in a lot right beside the convention center and take the river walk to the stadium. About 20 minute walk.
I usually use Priceline and stay downtown, but even they rape you around gameday.

I have some upper level tickets available to some games.

How many people? Are you driving or flying? Have a bunch of friends that come up from Florida they do different things each time I can ask them where they like to stay...

One friend says they do a sleep 12 type of deal. I will ask the other that sometimes comes up solo...

I usually stay at the Courtyard by Marriott right on Penn Ave. Three block walk to 6th St to walk across the Clemente Bridge, over to Gen. Robinson St. and walk right into Acrisure. It has mostly been a fun and lovely experience, but it can be a grind when the weather is bad.

Awesome SteelerSask, I hope you come back here and let us know a little of your game day experience And such.

I always like to here a few details and thanks in advance for sharing.

PS

I’d have to sleep in slash’s backyard under a tarp and if the weather was cold, hope like hellA he did a load in the dryer during the night………..

I guess that's kinda my point. We stayed there too when we went way back when. It's 1100 usd for three nights now.

Honest answer is it depends on what type of experience you're looking to have. I've stayed at a number of different downtown hotels but pretty much all of them are ridiculously priced for game day weekends. We've been using AirBNB lately and finding better value. The cheapest I've ever stayed was by staying in Greentree which is a suburb just over Mount Washington and is a very short drive if I remember correctly through the Fort Pitt tunnel. You are definitely outside of the city which makes anything else you might want to do or check out in Pittsburgh kind of a pain in the *** since you have to drive or take some other mode of transportation in. Greentree has your typical Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn type of hotels but for a guys weekend of drinking and catching the Steeler game it was fine. (Roughly $100 a night)
Downtown is much more convenient, walkable, and provides a lot more entertainment right outside your door. Advantage to staying at most of the downtown hotels is you can park your car and leave it for the weekend but you'll have to pay for that too. I'm not sure if it's technically downtown but Station Square has been mentioned and is a good option. It's a couple block area on the south side which means the south side of the Monongahela River or opposite the stadium. It has a few restaurants like the Hard Rock, Melting Pot, Grand Concourse, a few bars and shops and access to both inclines. Great game day experience is taking the boat across the river to Heinz. I'm from Michigan but I kind of view this area as more of a tourist spot but I could be wrong. (Stayed at the Sheraton a few times probably between $300-400 a night) My go to hotel used to be the Hilton (I think it has changed to the Wyndham Grand) it sits right at the point so between the Monongahela and Allegheny rivers. Liked this spot because I could park and not need my car all weekend, can walk to a lot of different places. The stadium is right across the bridge so if you are meeting or going to a tailgate it's a few minute walk, if your taking your vehicle a 2 minute drive. On game days they close the Roberto Clemente bridge which is about a 5 minute walk and has a few bars with game day crowds. The hotel is also close to Point State Park, PNC, tons of bars, shops etc. Strip District not too far. Really in the middle of everything. Not sure if it's still a thing but in the early to mid 2000's it wasn't out of the ordinary to run into current and former players there. Used to be some autograph hounds in there and although I didn't approach them I saw Ryan Clark, Marvel Smith, Max Starks, Alan Faneca and Kevin Greene all there. (Also 300-400 on game weekends)
Over the last say 8/10 years AirBNB has been my go to, lots of different price points and depending on group size I find this to be the best value. If it's just my wife and I we found a small studio apartment on the North Side within walking distance of Heinz for $130 a night in an area they call Germantown, parts of the neighborhood are a little sketchy but others are very nice, unfortunately the owners have gotten hip to the game and have increased it to 230 and put a 3 night minimum on it. If we are going with a larger group we use a large home up on MT. Washington that overlooks the city and is just above Station Square. This one is pricey at $850 a night but sleeps 8 so when shared it's much more affordable.
Hope this is of some help. Please keep in mind these experiences stretch back a number of years so I'm sure prices, names and places have changed but this should give you a general idea. Pittsburgh is a beautiful and fantastic city but is tough to get around for us out of towners, looking at it on a map looks like everything is super concentrated but remember there are 3 rivers, mountains and tunnels to navigate. What looks like an easy walk may not be. One last thing I would recommend taking the stadium tour which are available on non- game days. I think they're like ten bucks but well worth it. These were available pre- Covid so make sure they still do them you won't be sorry. If you have specific questions feel free to PM me if I could help I would be glad too! Apologize for the long post.

Does Slash's B N B backyard n breakfast .... serve brats, schnitzel and potato pancakes ?

My friend just called he said for you to check out Cranberry Township. You can take an Uber from there. I think they run about 90 a night.

So staying in the suburbs are your best bet… the Holiday inn or hampton inn in West Mifflin are currently only around 140-150 for the Saturday night before opening day. There are tons of restaurants and bars in the area… you are 20 minutes from the stadium and about 15 minutes from the southside bars… ubering is cheaper than from Cranberry… but Cranberry would be another option…
Parking around tge stadium on gamedays is virtual criminal rape… good luck with that

I usually uber down to station square, ferry over to the stadium… then at least when the massive traffic jam is going on you can try to get into a bar and drink or see a show or something…

Another really reasonable option if you have a car is to park at the first avenue T station and then take the T over to the stadium… it will be cheaper than the north side and getting out is relatively easy after the game… there may be a line for the train, but once you get to first avenue it will be clear compared to south side or trying to fight out of the north side..

As mentioned, Marriott North and Courtyard North (and others) both in cranberry decent place/value and 79 interstate right there so 20 to 25 minute uber. Obviously downtown preferable because of more places within walking distance. Not sure when it will reopen but Clemente Bridge closed for renovation but Warhol Bridge can be used. Loydlegend mentioned Airb&b and vrbo, I've stayed on Mt. Washington in a place on the corner of Maple Terrace and grandview quite a few times. Two seperate units on top of one another with four bedrooms total and roof top deck. Amazing views of downtown and stadium and not a bad price for both units when you split cost. Not sure if it's still a rental but there's others.

uber from 20 min away during game day.. good luck..

Sheraton Station Sq. might be a lil more expensive,, but buses from airport, or parking on site. Nice atmosphere, close to things on South side. Ferry to game on the boat and back after the game. It makes it very easy.

Yea, that's a bit optimistic but if you leave early you can get out as soon as your off the freeway and walk to a bar if you don't have a tailgate destination for pre game food and adult beverages

Which game are thinking Sask? Hit up Buster for some tickets or put a post up here for wanted. You never know. Both times I have went to games in Steeler Country I have never rented a car. They have an express type bus from the airport,so easy and cheap. It’s nice to sit back after your flight and not worry about parking and driving.
People forget on here that being Canadian adds 35% on to any bill........it sucks!

Living in Vancouver the Steelers are playing in Seattle again. Finally. A nice drive away for me.
Just like last time.....you should see the ticket prices. It is insane. The hotels have quadrupled in prices.
Then of course it has to be on New Year’s Eve. The border lineups will be brutal. Then the fact of driving through the mountain pass in winter sucks. I have known many that have driven Vancouver to Seattle for cheaper flights. Only to get turned around as they can get brutal snowstorms in the Pass. Have some feelers out,so haven’t given up yet,but man oh man. Sure as **** isn’t easy on the pocketbook being a Canadian fan.

My sister is moving to St Catharine’s Ontario. Very close to Buffalo. So I am hoping this opens up some options for me in the future. (She can buy tickets for Birthday present, supply accommodations,be designated driver) If she ever wants to see her favorite brother again.

Just stayed in Cranberry on Saturday night. My son attended a Pitt football camp at the UPMC complex yesterday.

I made the mistake of trusting positive online reviews of the Red Roof Inn. 8/10 my ***...that place is a dump.
