Legal tampering is coming fast and furious.

I'm recording tonight. Any questions for the podcast?

I will also be live at 7pm for the vidcast if anyone wants to join me live www.youtube.com/steelernation

Throwing you on the spot.

What positions do the Steelers target in free agency?

The phone rings a mysterious voice answers. It tells you.. you can interview Cheech and Chong or the Steelers Loudermilk. One of the two. Which one do you choose?

Prior to the phone call a neighbor brings over a bag of trees. Free no charge...Do you smoke it before, during, or after the interview?

What side of the ball gets drafted first, offense or defense?

So rumors are we are looking at Charleton Davis from Tampa.

Also that we offered a non negotiable, team friendly, lowball contract to edmunds… if he doesn’t take it we will move on … perhaps back to the tampa secondary……

How do those moves make you feel directionwise? Sounds like they are looking to settle the secondary first and foremost

Davis would be a solid signing and should be a position they attack very quickly. That and C, RT, and QB.

We cant afford to get starter level guys in all those positions
If they mid tier the free agents minus CB why couldn't they? Plus the Steelers backload their contracts. And can still free up even more space if needed. By restructuring or cutting dead weight.

With cap wiggle room the tasks are less daunting than in times past.

Well tgere are three things

1. The costs of average starters are going to start jumping significantly this year… ufas will want to base their contracts off of the cap in two or 3 years, not this year, so the top end guys might be very expensive and tgat raises the middle guys too

2. There is a good logical reason not to blow next years cap space by pushing money back into it… it makes sense to grab some foundation pieces but not try to plug every hole until we see how some of the developmental guys have come along otherwise you risk needlessly handicapping yourself for a redundancy you didn’t need
3 they are going to have to extend Fitzpatrick and maybe DJ, so that changes how much you can push out into the future

A top cb is going to cost 15-20 million
A secondary good cb may cost 5-8
A strong safety that is better than edmunds wont come cheaper than five mil per, and miincahs extension is going to put him at 20 mil per overall

A really good offensive lineman isnt going to be found for less than a double digit salary

Same with a wr…

And cutting tuitt or shobert leaves them with a huge hole at an expensive position too…

That isn’t even touching the qb market

My guess is they will try to make a splash at Cb and get bottom tier bargains elsewhere…

I would do one CB, the QB and C first. Then revaluate. You can extend Joe. Either cut or adjust Tuitt. SS market is rich that shouldn't be too costly. Bring back spoon ditto. Then snag a RT.

Up to them to make it work and if they have to tweak a little bit shouldn't be as indepth as years past. So I am not concerned about the following year.

They still had what 8 mil last year they didn't use?

They can make the numbers work.

Any extension can actually lower the first year cap. See Watt last year.

Dude we have seen this for over a decade and they managed to bring in depth and fill holes. This time they can just anti up their approach.
