Just watched PIAA State Championships and Ross Tucker, without actually saying it, pointed out how these schools who travel out of state to play and basically recruit kids have an unfair advantage versus public schools.

I do find these types of schools rather shameless or sketchy or at least it seems that way.

Anyone else feel this way?

BTW. Pine Richland's team has David vs. Goliath heart and resolve.

Absolutely. My alma mater lost a state title game in basketball to a Catholic school, there was no matching up. Pine Richland did a great job competing and coming back, but all three private schools that made the finals won. Pretty lame if you ask me.

They should have their own class for sure, its the same in all high school sports

A local public HS here in VA just won their third state championship in a row. 14-0 in 2012 15-0 in 2013 and 13-2 this year. They took mercy on my daughters school and only beat them 54-3, and they beat my alma mater 43-7. They won the championship today 22-19. They are a well oiled machine that can pass and run very effectively and their D has no holes....ever.

The Philadelphia cathloic schools were only recently (3-4 years ago) allowed to compete for the PIAA state title, and just as predicted they are now dominating.
It might be WPIAL vs Philly catholic schools in almost every state title game from here on out.
But at least WPIAL schools will get to the final game, I feel bad for all those schools in eastern part of state that will face Philly in the playoffs.

I'm not against them recruiting. It's a good thing for those inner city kids.
A kid can play ball so gets a scholarship/financial help to a good quality school and out of the ****-hole city public school.

Same thing happened to Clairton in the PIAA state championship game. Ran into a team from Altoona who recruits, and they got beat 19 - 18. This was in the single A division. No doubt the game has changed as there will be more schools like this that will continue to challenge the structure we're accustomed to.

I think the private schools should have their own playoffs. Football is still fairly competitive but in basketball where you need less players the public schools don't stand a chance.
Back when Rochester was good in the late 90's-early 00's we played in about 5 Class A state championships, always against a team from the Harrisburg area called Southern Columbia. If memory serves we won 3 and lost 2. They were a vo-tech school that recruited and also cheated on their enrollment and had as many players on their roster as the Class AAA schools. Henry Hynoski, formerly of Pitt and currently of the NY Giants, played for Southern Columbia. They were well-hated in their section and since Hershey is fairly close, fans and other coaching staffs from there would sit with Rochester and cheer for us.

I personally think private schools should have their own classification. They simply dont have to play by the same rules as everyone else. I will also say however, there have been some public schools that have done some shady things as well, in terms of student residences (living with aunts grandmothers. etc) on more than one occasion. That isnt kosher either in my book.

Perhaps the Catholic schools win so much is because God is on their side ;)
