Growing up I was an Islanders fan ( Hey that's where I grew up and they rocked ). Steelers & the Islanders. Lots of championships and dominance!

Now I'm more of a casual hockey fan, seeing 1-2 Florida Panther games a year.

My question is this. How come hockey is the only game live that doesn't look better on TV?

Why doesn't the NHL add more camera's, sink the rink so the people could locate the puck on the boards better, and maybe even make the puck itself a bit more visible? Also, why not increase the playing surface Olympic style so the skills of the players can better be shown?

Has any of this been discussed? I think the game is as good as ever, but how its viewed on TV langs behind.

Personally, I like to watch football on TV, hockey at the rink. Hockey is so fast, you can watch things develop more at the rink. A bigger rink probably won't happen because it will cost a couple prime rows of seats......money. It has been discussed, and I think it would be good for the game. The rink get's congested at times. As far as the puck, the NHL did an experiment a few years back with an electronic puck, with a halo. that you could follow, even behind the boards. I liked it. i guess the league didn't.

You have to consider that most decisions are being made by the Canadian overlords, that want to keep it a Canadian league, true to Canadian standards. Unfortunately, that has not resulted in a more viewer friendly game, like you have suggested. If the NHL wants to grow in popularity, it will have to adopt a more European style.

I agree with that. But the #1 goal ( pun intended ) should be to increase TV ratings. Open up the ice.

Eh, Hockey is always going to be a sport that is better watching live instead of TV. Just too fast for TV. Hockey Night in Canada is the best hockey broadcast there is.
